Galaxy 4.0 vs. Ipod Touch 4th Gen - Two Week Review

My son got iPod Touch 8G (4th Gen) last Christmas and he likes it overall, but there were several issues that we are not so happy about. So, I've decided to try out the Galaxy Player for my daughter. I preordered it through Amazon and, with Amazon Prime, the Galaxy was delivered on Mon, Oct. 17, which was two full days earlier than promised. :-) So, here's what our family's experience has been over last two weeks.- Galaxy 4.0 vs. 5.0: I settled on 4.0 since it is mainly used as a music player and a hand-held game machine for my daughter and, thus, the smaller size makes it more convenient for her to carry it around. I did try out Dell with a 5-inch screen at BestBuy to get the feel for larger 5" screen, and, although I liked it better for web surfing and videos, I felt the 4" would be just fine for her. So, if you are going to use the Galaxy to stream shows over NetFlix or consume media on the web, then you might be better off with 5.0.- Galaxy vs. iPod -... 5/5 Snowdance (Frisco, Co) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Very surprising device

I've owned several mp3 players and tablets from microsoft, apple, sony, etc, but none of them attended most of my expectations. When I bought my Samsung Galaxy Player I also bought an iPod touch to compare both at the same time. The Galaxy Player was faster at web browsing, navigating throughout the device in general, etc.Even the ear-buds that come with it are good quality. Better than Apple's. Deep bass and nice distribution on the trebles and mediums. I had just bought a Klipsch s4i which is a really wonderful pair of ear-buds, but not needed after I tested this samsung one.The screen quality of the iPod touch is still superior due to the 960x640 pixel resolution, but the bigger size (5 inches) of the galaxy's screen makes it way more comfortable to your eyes (the quality is still really impressive though). The galaxy's internal stereo speakers are not like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inches' which are wonderful, but they beat the... 4/5 Biel85 - See all my reviews This review is from: Samsung Galaxy 5.0 Android MP3 Player (Electronics) I've owned several mp3 players and tablets from microsoft, apple, sony, etc, but none of them attended most of my expectations. When I bought my Samsung Galaxy Player I also bought an iPod touch to compare both at the same time. The Galaxy Player was faster at web browsing, navigating throughout the device in general, etc.Even the ear-buds that come with it are good quality. Good balance between tablet and MP3 player

There are a lot of people who are comparing this to the iPod touch, and rightfully so. But I thought I'd give it a different perspective, as someone who has owned both the 4.0 and 5.0.First off, I love these Galaxy Players. They both run the Android OS 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), which is a very slick, smooth, easy-to-use interface. In my opinion, it's a little more complicated than iOS, but nothing that's overwhelming, and if you've used a touch-based OS, you can get the hang of this in no time. Both players are solid and well-built, with GPS, rear and forward-facing cameras, a microSD slot and stereo speakers. Aside from the power and volume buttons, there are no other hardware buttons on either device; the home and menu buttons are touch-sensitive. This can be a bit of a pain if you hold the device in landscape mode, though, as the buttons are sensitive and I find myself accidentally pressing them. This is of course, easily remedied by holding it from the... 4/5 maxmasa31 "maxmasa31" (Honolulu, HI United States) - See all my reviews, October 31, 2011

Best Android programming book I have purchased

This is the third Android programming book I have read and so far it is the best (for me at least). It is a massive book 1100+ pages that (so far in my reading) goes to the effort to explain not only how to do a task, but explains why. While it is called Pro Android 3, it does go over the all the steps needed to get an experienced programmer up and going with the eclipse IDE for android programming. If you are familiar with Java programming I would recommend this as a great first book for Android development. 4/5 Samwise - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Pro Android 3

This is the first book I have read on the Android platform.Though I am not an active coder, I have done quite a bit of coding in C++ and am quite familiar with C# and Java. With this background I am pleased to find that I can learn the basicsfrom scratch with this book. Midway through the book I saw that I can get a good footingwith the internals of Android. There are also lot of chapters on a tonof independent advanced APIs (this list is evident from the table ofcontents in the book description).I have seen some folks asking about fragments and other tabletspecific APIs. I haven't gone through those chapters in detail but from aninitial look it seems to have lot of pages on those topics.Overall, this is a great book for Android developers whether they are beginners or already gotten their hands dirty in this environment. On the way to my first app in Android... 4/5 V S B VEERAPANENI (SEATTLE, WA, US) - See all my reviews This review is from: Pro Android 3 (Paperback) This is the first book I have read on the Android platform.Though I am not an active coder, I have done quite a bit of coding in C++ and am quite familiar with C# and Java. With this background I am pleased to find that I can learn the basicsfrom scratch with this book. Great phone for the price

The Galaxy 3 (I5800) is an inexpensive alternative to an iphone. It does the basic things you need and have a great variety of apps in the android market. However, If you want all the functionalities, you should go for the Samsung Galaxy S (I9000).The phone arrived on time and was OK. The only problem was that it came with a European language installed. I had to go to settings (Locale and Text) and set the English language. 4/5 Alejandro - See all my reviews This review is from: Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3 Unlocked Touchscreen Phone with Android OS, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.1 MP Camera+Video--International Version with Warranty (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory) The Galaxy 3 (I5800) is an inexpensive alternative to an iphone. My lovely device

I'm really enjoying this phone. I use free android market's app. such as several types of dictionaries, e-readers, books stores, TV news, games, etc.Especially good for me - Skype works very well!! that is important because i haven't a plan but just T-mobile card and also make calls to Europe.Battery life is shorter than I wanted, but having second battery (Replacement Battery for Samsung EB504465VU, SO1S416AS/5-B, EB504465) and charger (USB Dock Battery Charger for Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3) help. Synchronization mails and contacts, and etc. information with google is excellent. 5/5 Devushka "Nina" (DeKal, Il) - See all my reviews This review is from: Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3 Unlocked Touchscreen Phone with Android OS, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.1 MP Camera+Video--International Version with Warranty (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory) I'm really enjoying this phone. Samsung has a winner

I wanted a simple, lightweight Android phone for overseas, and settled in with this phone. Granted, my expectations of this phone was value vs. price. True this phone does not have the latest OS, or the newer 5MP+ cameras, but I only paid $220 for this, so I expect a $220 phone with features. If I wanted the latest feature and OS, I would have spent $400+ easily for an unlocked phoneScreen Quality: 7/10 - It's not an iPhone or HD screen, but it's crisp and clearWeight: 9/10 - Had this in my pants pocket the whole time and barely notice itResponsiveness: 8/10 - No noticeable delay. Had a few times where it took a few seconds for the screen to light up after pushing the power buttonCamera: 7/10 - For a 3MP camera, it's not bad...Call Quality: 8/10 - Was able to hear and the other party could hear just fine. Great for pointing, not for drawing

These stylus are very well made and work very well, if all you want to do is find an alternative to pressing the onscreen keyboard. However, these stylus are totally useless for use with a drawing program because the rubber tip will not glide across the screen. If you use your iPhone outdoors and you are wearing gloves, these stylus are for you. If you want to draw, then you'd be better off with a stylus with a soft foam tip. 3/5 Pierre Fontaine "Pierre Fontaine" (Westchester County, NY) - See all my reviews, October 17, 2009

The rubber tips on them have too much friction. You can't write or draw easily; you literally feel like the Stylus is getting stuck on the screen. Buy the correct stylus

This review has stirred interest beyond the value of said stylus. These are inexpensive, ok, cheap, stylus. I bought them to test on a cheap tablet I was testing and they worked very good. If they are lost, stolen or eaten by Fido, who cares. We are talking about bang for the buck here. And yes, they are made across the big pond.If you need status, spend the big bucks, but don't cry if it goes missing. It could be hiding next to that missing $200.00 remote.Better yet, make one yourself, it's a fun and interesting project. First of all, I would like to say that I am in no way any Android or Java expert. I enjoy creating small apps on my free time and have read a few books about programming, but I have no formal education or experience in the field. The book "Beginning Android 3" seems well suited for someone like me. It assumes that you have some experience in programming and Java, but it starts off easy, by explaining how to install and use the most common tools in your IDE. Then it continues, showing you how to get a simple "Hello world!" type program up and running. If you are using Eclipse, this book covers how to use Eclipse with the Android tools in details. It also covers other IDE's, but I feel that it leans more towards Eclipse. And that is probably not all that bad, since Eclipse is both free, available for most platforms, and probably the most likely choice for someone just starting with Android development. If you, like me, also have read "Beginning Android 2", you... 5/5 Arild Pihl - See all my reviews This review is from: Beginning Android 3 (Paperback) First of all, I would like to say that I am in no way any Android or Java expert. Good Android Book for Beginners

This is a well laid out book for Java programmers who want to learn how to create applications for Android devices. This is not a book for learning how to program or for anyone who does not have some experience programming in Java. The author has a nice writing style with a light sense of humour and straight forward explanations of the aspects of Android development. The first few chapters are all too brief and merely touch on topics needed to know to begin programming Android applications. But once you are past these disappointing chapters, the remaining chapters are excellent tutorials providing examples that help illustrate each chapter's topic well.I recommend this book for Java programmers who want to learn how to develop on Android devices. I don't recommend this book for someone trying to learn programming. 4/5 Stephen Fletcher (Waterloo, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews This review is from: Beginning Android 3 (Paperback) This is a well laid out book for Java programmers who want to learn how to create applications for Android devices. Recently, I am involved into the project where Android is one of the technologies we use. This is quite fresh experience for me, since I am server side (Java) and iOS developer. I wanted to see how is it to be at the Android's side, thus I decided to read something devoted strictly to Android. It turned out, that Beginning Android 3 was a nice reading and quite good choice - as for beginner. The book is all about starting your experience with Android 3 development. It will guide you through all the basics, mostly, using Eclipse. As a matter of fact, book is not bound to any particular IDE, however, first part provides detailed description of how to configure Eclipse for Android 3 development. I am pretty sure, that you will stick with it if you are fresh in this matter. It is simply the easiest way to start. After you have you environment up and running, you will be guided by Mark through the basics of Android development. This section is really great. It guides you step by... 4/5 mko "mko" (Poland) - See all my reviews This review is from: Beginning Android 3 (Paperback) Recently, I am involved into the project where Android is one of the technologies we use. some people say dh2 was better. I don't know. I play apps that are free and I find some pretty good ones. this downloaded smoothly on my kindle fire even though it was a long download cuz its gameloft and its a great game. you can choose from four different classes for your character and there's a wide variety of levels getting harder as it goes. the graphics are wonderfully and there's no lag. if you have played dungeon deffenders and liked it you will love this game. 5/5 S.Hicks - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) twice the listed size

the download size listed in the description isn't correct you still need to download another 420MB to get the game to run. list the total file size since the kindle partitions memory into apps and books. 1/5 Longears - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Ying and Yang of the Combo

This has both pros and cons. The pros, is that I received it and it had all the advertised items and also the drivers (yes I got the T3 that I really wanted) seem to be of a nice design, easy to hold and manipulate. So why a Yang?I can not ding them for this but it would have been very nice if this set came in any type of protective plastic box or holders. I received it in just a small, very tightly arranged white cardboard box. So there is no storage other than the cardboard box the set comes in. But that doesn't bother me as much as this is supposed to be a precision set (IE the T3 Torx bit is almost microscopic and fragile on the tip) but the box is SOOO tight that most all of the tips of the drivers arrived either punched through the cardboard or dented the box.I have not tried to see if the tiny tips have been damaged by the way too small box. A simple millimeter more in box length and a thing piece of foam would have at least... 3/5 TB-10 Pilot "George" (Columbus, Ohio) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) 13 pc Set Recvd, and it worked

Overall, the set gets 5 stars because it contained (more than) the parts advertised, and it worked for the intended purpose - the #5 torq driver opened the battery compartment on a Philips Pronto 9400 remote control. Quality? The 13 pieces cost $10. At that price, the quality is *at least* as expected.Note that the set I received on 1/6/12 had 13 pieces:- 7 Torq drivers and 2 tweezers as shown.- 1 plastic prying tool, double-ended, green.- 1 flat + 1 philps head "jeweler's" screwdrivers, black plastic-like.- 1 unidentifed piece, a screwdriver-like piece I would describe as a "jeweler's size" awl.The set came in a re-sealable plastic bag, inside a small bubble-mailer, inside an Amazon box. The bag+mailer are adequate as a storage pouch. 5/5 Twoboxer (New Hope, PA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A Small Word of Caution

Edit: 1/22/12When I wrote this review, the device already seemed to be working better. Since then, I have had no trouble out of Siri, and I have been able to use the next button on the device and have it work each time I pressed it. I still feel like rating this product four stars, just because it did have a time when it wasn't working so well, and it may start acting up again at any time. I just wanted to edit this to point out that for the past two weeks or so, the device hasn't given me any trouble whatsoever.***I ordered this because I recently upgraded from a first generation iPod Touch to an iPhone 4s. The old wireless transmitter (that I got on sale for 12 bucks) always worked great with my iPod Touch, but it didn't work with my iPhone, so I started the search for a new transmitter. I looked at Walmart first and found several, but they were terribly expensive, and all I could think was that a few years ago it had only cost me $12 to be... 4/5 wondering_wyld32 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Best one so far!

I've used about 3 different brands and styles of transmitters in my car and this is by far the BEST one! I get static sometimes but it's definitely less than my 3 previous transmitters and it usually doesn't last very long. I've been using it for almost a month and I haven't had any issues with it so far. My only complaint is that if my iPod's volume is all the way on high and there's a song with a strong beat, it gets extremely statistic-y. All I had to do was lower the volume on my device a few notches and increase the volume in my car (if I want the music higher) to get rid of that problem though so I'm still extremely satisfied. 5/5 Cristhiane "QueenC" (CHINO, CA, United States) - See all my reviews, March 6, 2012
