Kindle vs. Nook (updated November 2011)
UPDATE NOVEMBER 2011:My review is now over a year old, as is the "Kindle Keyboard" as Amazon calls it now. There are newer models: the basic, cheapie Kindle and the Kindle Touch, and of course the Kindle Fire quasi-tablet.Each of these models is an excellent choice. Whichever one is right for you just depends on your preferences. The 3 e-ink Kindles are Kindle Keyboard (this one), Kindle Touch (the newest "flagship" model), and the basic Kindle. All 3 of them have EXACTLY THE SAME 6" DISPLAY, with the same sharp typeface and high contrast that reads like ink on paper with no eyestrain. The Kindle Keyboard is the oldest of these models, and I got one of the first ones when they came out in August 2010.I still absolutely LOVE my Kindle Keyboard and use it almost every day. I have read dozens of books on it. I like the newer models, they have some neat features, but the experience of reading a book on them is no better or worse than on... 5/5 Ron Cronovich "Ron" (Kenosha, WI) - See all my reviews, August 28, 2010Worth the money. Not perfect, but very very good for start to finish novels in good light
The Kindle is my first e-ink reader. I own an iPad, an iPhone, and have owned a Windows-based phone in the past that I used as an ereader. My overall impression of the device is good. The good:I'd honestly rather read linear (read from page one to the end, one page at a time) fiction from it than a book, because I can't always get comfortable with a book. Hardcovers are sometimes a bit heavy, and paperbacks don't always lie open easily. The Kindle is incredibly light and thin. I can hold it in one hand easily. The page turn buttons are conveniently located. Page-turns aren't instant, but they're probably quicker than turning a physical page in a printed book (there are just a lot more page-turns unless you choose a small font). The contrast is better than other ereaders I've seen. There is zero eye strain in good light. My eyesight isn't the greatest and I like being able to increase the font size and read without glasses. I love being able to... 3/5 Jeffrey Stanley (Wichita, KS United States) - See all my reviews, August 31, 2010Not the perfect "do-it-all" device, but very close to being the perfect e-reading device!
I woke up to a nice surprise this morning: a new kindle as a gift. I have an iPad and a Kindle DX, but I guess someone heard my complaints of them being too heavy and difficult to do extended-reading on. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my iPad and DX, but this new generation of Kindle is perfect for reading outside and for long periods of time. The iPad gets completely washed out in sunlight and often irritates my eyes staring at it for more than a couple of hours. The DX was my go-to device for those extended/outdoor reading periods, but now I have a new friend for reading novels. Instead of a replacement, this one seems more like a companion to the other devices and is a different class. The iPad works great for web browsing, shopping, productivity, games, etc while the Kindle falls short in those areas. The Kindle works great for reading novels, where the iPad falls short. For those that love to do extended-reading of magazines, newspapers, research articles, etc, I find that... 5/5 C. iPearl mCover Leather Folio Cover for Amazon Kindle 3 Keyboard Model (Black)
Network Media Player (iPearl Inc, USA)
List Price: $39.99
A very good product, and an outstanding value at the price.
I'm in a good position to review this product, since I recently returned . These two covers are very, very similar.Similarities:The form factor is nearly identical. The dimensions are the same, and closed they look nearly the same. Both are pebbled leather with a (really nice) microfiber faux-suede interior. Both close with a wrap-around elastic, which also serves to keep the cover in the folded-back position.Differences:The Amazon-branded Kindle cover attaches via a hinge system. This looks neater but didn't work out for me -- I have a toddler who likes to try and open it the wrong way around, which bends the hinges. The mCover attaches with molded (vinyl?) corner holders. This doesn't looks so... 4/5 Nina Karp (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews, November 6, 2010mCover® leather case for the new Kindle 3

I just got my new Kindle 3, and the mCover Leather case came the same day. I put the Kindle in it immediately, and haven't taken it out since! It is absolutely perfect for the K3 in every way. Just what I wanted in a case. The cover folds back flat and is easy to hold while reading. Fold the top back over the Kindle to protect it when not reading. And it has an attached elastic band to hold the front cover closed! The pieces that hold the kindle to the back of the cover are sized just right, holding the Kindle securely to the cover without obstructing any of the screen or buttons. This is the best cover! I recommend it for everyone who has a Kindle 3! 5/5 bookloveranne "booklover6" (Loretto, PA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Anti-glare Screen- A MUST HAVE FOR KINDLE FIRE
I love my Kindle Fire and highly recommend but I was very disappointed with the fact I couldn't read outside because of the glare. I purchased this anti-glare screen from Amazon and voila! Problem fully solved. I previously had been to several stores and no one had anything like this to match what I needed. 3 Pack ANTI GLARE SCREEN PROTECTORS FOR AMAZON KINDLE 3 3G
Wireless (Generic)

Work exactly as advertised, just need patience when applying
Applying screen protectors just requires patience, a clean area to work and a credit card or other stiff card. I would give this product 5 stars if they altered the instructions a little... start by only peeling back the #1 plastic backing an inch from the corner. Then align that exposed corners to one corner of the screen, but be sure to properly line up the long edge. Then, from that corner, use a credit card or other stiff card to slowly work out from that corner. Be sure to lift back the screen protector to help get rid of any air bubbles. The product works. How well it is applied has to do with you. Good luck! 4/5 BigDaddyCmC - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Universal Capacitive Stylus Pen for New Apple iPad WiFi, The New iPad 4G LTE (3rd Gen), Amazon Kindle Fire & Touch 3G, iPhone 4s Accessory for All TouchScreen Devices
Wireless (MiniSuit)
List Price: $19.95
Nice Device, Slightly Less Sensitive Than Equivalent Product
This "capacitive" stylus works well with the Kindle Fire and Nook Color, but is not quite as sensitive as the . It has a pocket clip, which is a nice feature, but this adds a little weight, and affects how you hold the stylus. If you wish, you can attach the stylus to your touchscreen device by plugging the plastic-tipped lanyard into the earphones outlet. The barrel of this stylus is 4" long (exclusive of the capacitive tip). The barrel of the AmazonBasics stylus is 4.25" long. Because I have large hands, I prefer the longer barrel--it surprised me how much difference one-quarter of an inch makes. Also, I prefer the clipless barrel. I like to grip the stylus at mid-barrel (not near the tip like a pencil), and the clip gets in the way when I pick the stylus up. The two styluses... 4/5 Lynne E. My daughter is handicapped and communicates on keyboards a great deal. She has had trouble with her HTC Evo phone as the letters are too close for her to always hit the proper key. (In either direction) On ordering the new Kindle Fire I noticed the stylus as an available accessory for multiple devices. Where has this been! It is exactly what my daughter needed and she loves it. Her texts are so much quicker. It turns out the Kindle Fire has large enough buttons for my hands but my husband wants another stylus for his use. This Stylus is good for basics. It worked fairly well with it's round rubber tip when pressing "buttons" in the screen. It does not work that good with the screen sliding functionality. It performs poorly at drawing. 3/5 Hector (DORAL, FL, United States) - See all my reviews, October 31, 2011Use with any app for greater comfort and controlFulling Compatible with All Capacitive Touch Screen Tablets and Cell Phone including The New Apple iPad / iPad 4G LTE released 03/07/2012 (newest model)Top of the line precision, responsiveness and durability -

Black Leather Case Cover for Amazon Kindle 3 3G eReader
CE (Generic)
List Price: $24.99
Excellent for the price!
This Kindle case is incredible for how cheap it is. I mainly bought a case to protect my Kindle's screen when I wasn't using it and I am pleasantly surprised by how well this case works. It came with a couple loose threads, but I just snipped them off and it looks great. I find I actually prefer to read with it in the case because the added thickness from the case feels more comfortable than the Kindle alone, in my opinion. The only problem I have with it, is that the edge of the cut out for the key pad is really close to the right arrow of the D-Pad and it gets in your way a little bit. It is not nearly enough for me to consider a more expensive case, but it is mildly annoying at times. 4/5 K. Dalrymple - See all my reviews, July 17, 2011Stylish and Functional Cover For The Kindle 3
I couldn't pass up a leather Kindle 3 case at such a low price. It fits the Kindle nice and snug and holds it in place (unlike the covers with the corner tabs) securely. Other reviewers have complained about the leather smell but I found it to have a very mild sent. It actually smells good. The leather is thin and soft so don't expect a slab of cowhide like you'd find on a saddle. The inside cover has a soft felt feel. The magnetic tab holds the cover closed just fine but you may find it gets in the way when ready. Something I think you'll get over quickly. For the price you can't beat it. Good protection for your Kindle 3 and has a classy look. 5/5 Steve Taylor (Only visiting this planet) - See all my reviews, November 26, 2011Great Kindle Cover
Nice soft leather case. I turn the magnet cover behind the kindle then fold the cover back behind the kindle which attaches the cover to the magnet. Superior product and a great price too. Easy to access controls. Love it!!! 5/5 Roni - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) AmazonBasics Netbook Bag with Handle, Fits 7- to 10-Inch Netbooks, iPad, HP Touchpad (Black)
CE (AmazonBasics)

Works great with my iPad.
This is the perfect iPad carrying case. I already use the official that folds over to protect the iPad from daily use, but now I will be able to carry it without worrying it will slip from my hands. I have been searching for a quality made carrying case with handles that would make it easier to carry my iPad from place to place. The AmazonBasics Netbook bag has been the answer. Unlike other iPad carrying cases I have been eyeballing, this Netbook bag is extremely affordable. The rubber grip zippers operate with ease and it is padded for added protection. I can even fit my iPad in it's case inside this bag without having to jam it in, there is plenty of extra room to spare. The side compartment is great to store my portable AC power adapter and digital camera. Great product. 5/5 ~ Z ~ (New York) - See all my reviews, June 28, 2010Amazingly roomy for such a compact bag!
Since I bought my netbook, I've been on the hunt for the perfect small case to tote it in. Almost every case I've used has been lacking in some way, but the AmazonBasics Netbook Bag with Handle comes the closest to the perfect case for me of anything I've tried thus far.Yes, I said it comes the closest, which implies there is something missing, so I'll start with that. It's a pretty minor thing, really, which is why I think the bag still deserves 5 stars. The only thing I would change is I would add a detachable shoulder strap. It's a small detail and one easily remedied by purchasing a universal shoulder strap to it. But if it already had that feature, it would be perfect in my eyes.Let's move on to what I really appreciate about this case. First and formost, it fits my 10" Asus 1000HE very well while maintaining a small form factor that easily fits inside a larger case. The handles make it easy to pick up and run with when you want to leave the larger case... 5/5 Jennifer Ray (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews, August 26, 2010How Did Amazon Manage to Do Better than the "bag companies" on This One?
Well I am simply surprised. I have 4-5 other netbook cases and this one is significantly better than all of them, for a lower price (a word on pricing later):* The handles are the right thickness and "feel" - they aren't just webbing that seems like an afterthought and feels uncomfortable, they appear to be made of a thinner Neoprene style material with stitching on the "grab" area to create a nicely-formed, nice-feeling, handle. At first I thought there was a "stiffener" inserted in the handle area to give it more shape and "grippability," but apparently its just a good choice of materials and a well-executed design. You won't need any additional handle wrapper to be comfortable!- I have another zipper case with a handle but would never feel comfortable carrying it by the handle around town. The handle is too flimsy to be comfortable and I don't trust the security of the construction/stitching. This AmazonBasics case is completely different. I feel like I can... 5/5 MWebb (Berkeley, CA) - See all my reviews, December 21, 2010Distributed by Amazon.com; backed by one-year Amazon Basics warrantyBlack neoprene case with handle protects valuable electronics, such as portable DVD players, mini laptops, and netbooksOuter dimensions: 12 x 9.2 x 1.8 inches (304.8mm x 233.7mm x 45.72mm)Durable, weather-resistant neoprene construction; designed to protect 7-to-10-inch netbooksShips in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging -

Great cover for a Great price!
Customer Video Review Length:: 0:49 MinsI got the Pink Cover for my wife and she loves it. It was easy to to slide the Kindle in the straps. Holds good. The quality of the case seems to be very sturdy and good. I don't get why someone would want to spend over $20 on a cover case. This cover does everything the higher price covers do but this case is a lot less! Case can be folded back as well!Shipping was fast and product was well packaged.I would def buy another one.Video - Shows just how simple and easy it is to use. The inside is a nice fuzzy fabric. Has a strap to lock the case together. Also, you can flip the front to the back like a book. You don't need it laid out like a book. 5/5 Steve D - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I don't know what I was more excited about getting in the mail - my new Kindle or this cover! I looked for several days for a cover and I'm glad I stumbled on this one.Of course, my first choice was the Kindle lighted cover but I have several book lights already so paying an extra $48 for a case with a built in light really wasn't worth it to me.I *almost* didn't get this mCover Leather Folio Cover Case because it uses leather tabs to secure the Kindle. I did not like the idea of securing the Kindle with the hinges even more. I would have preferred elastic bands but the fit is actually good and my Kindle does not shift at all. At first glance, the leather tabs looked stiff (and like hard plastic in the picture) but it's soft enough to not worry about the leather wearing and rubbing against it but firm enough to slide your Kindle underneath and hold it snug. My concern is that the leather will become softer over time. This cover, like the Kindle... 5/5 azwahine "MJ" (AZ) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Much better than I thought and worked first time
I have been leery of many screen protectors and from the reviews written by my fellow amazon reviewers. The beauty of the product is its simplicity of design and quality. There is a little blue cloth to wipe down your screen, then the screen protector is wedged between plastic sheet 1 and 2: peel and one side will have slight, ever so slight stickiness... Then roll slowly over the screen and use the little brown plastic tab to push the air bubbles out. Yep, there is a slight mm gap, but hell you are going to need that to peel it off eventually! It is part of the design and not a fault in the design! I am totally okay with the tiniest bubbles on a few of the corners as it does not affect the print. Yep, I am super glad that I got this screen protector (from dirt and not from too much pressure applying on it!). The anti glare factor, yes, noticed when led lights fall on it, it is much more matted, not that the kindle itself doesnt do a great job in the antiglare department. Well... 5/5 Sincerely Yours - See all my reviews, May 19, 2011Protector works, but beware of cloth
The actual product:The screen protector arrived in a little package the size of the protectors themselves. They come, as usual, sandwiched between two sheets of plastic film. You peel off the first sheet (labeled "1"), apply the protector to the Kindle, and then peel off the outer sheet (labeled "2").The screen protector is matte, as described, and looks virtually indistinguishable to the Kindle's bare screen. I'm very happy with the anti-glare properties.Grievances and Tips:The included cloth left nearly invisible little fibers all over my screen, which are now stuck under the protector. Don't use it; use any other clean microfiber cloth instead. Also, while applying the sticky side to the Kindle, flatten as you go because even little air bubbles are VERY difficult to get out. I'm not sure if this is a property of these matte type protectors, but watch out for those annoying bubbles because you'll never get rid of them.Overall, a great... 5/5 Nika (New Jersey) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I was excited that the item truly does leave the screen more or less anti-glare. I have read my Kindle outside in the sun and didn't notice any more glare than say sunlight off the pages of a book.I wish the protector fit the screen better, it's about an 1/8 - 1/4 of inch too small on both the length and the width. I had to decide which part of my screen I wanted to leave unprotected. Also, as with any screen protector, I'm glad there were 3 and I think I may need to order another pack. In trying to finagle the protector to lay sort of centered on the screen, I managed to get a piece of dust stuck each time. I do live with cats, and not in a hermetically sealed bubble, so dust is an eventuality, but I think next time I will just have to try moving slowly with the protector to not pick up dust in the air. This review would have been 5 stars if the protector was cut closer to the actual screen size.
