    Great Platform, Stretched Hardware

I purchased this phone about a year ago and was initially ecstatic about the device's features as well as the intuitiveness of the Android platform itself. However, at the release of this device the Android platform was still growing and functioned in a much less advanced capacity than it currently does. Through several updates of core firmware, as well as various software updates to apps, the phone has become sluggish and often unresponsive.Long story short, the hardware hasn't kept up with the every-growing demands on the software front. The Android Marketplace offers a great breadth of content that is simply impractical to run on this outdated hardware. If you're looking to have a phone that keeps up with current technological trends, think twice before investing in this sucker. Also, battery life tends to become absolutely abysmal after the first 6-8 months or so, so definitely think about investing in some backup batteries. 3/5 Mike C. - See all my reviews This review is from: Verizon Motorola Droid A855 Android Cell Phone (no contract) (Wireless Phone Accessory) I purchased this phone about a year ago and was initially ecstatic about the device's features as well as the intuitiveness of the Android platform itself. Great Phone!

I've had this phone for a while now and it is FANTASTIC!I upgraded to it from a blackberry storm thinking it wouldn't be that different from one smart phone to another, but boy was I wrong!I love my Droid; there are SO many more wonderful apps available for it and it I love that it syncs everything with my gmail.I am NOT very good with phones (tend to beat up on them a lot) but I have NEVER had any problems with this one breaking or anything. 5/5 C. Senior Citizen Review of Ipod Touch

I purchased my Ipod Touch 8G in January, 2011 just for fun and to see what all the fuss was about. I use a laptop and have wireless connectivity in my home. But I don't store music on an Ipod and don't have "smart" cell phone. After using the Ipod Touch for a few months, all I can say is "WOW".This device is like carrying a small computer in your pocket. I can connect to the internet wirelessly at home and anywhere I can find a public connection--library, cafe, etc. I check my email (read and compose), facebook, Meetups, Ravelry, take pictures and movies, and with the Skype App, can video call my kids. I have become hooked on the Angry Birds game, which is fun to do while waiting anywhere. I have also downloaded audio books from my library to take with me when I travel. I knit and have any pattern I am working on loaded on my Touch so I don't worry about losing it. All this in a 2x4 inch little device I can carry with me everywhere.I considered getting... 5/5 Sanjosemom - See all my reviews This review is from: Apple iPod touch 8GB (4th Generation) - Black - Current Version (Electronics) I purchased my Ipod Touch 8G in January, 2011 just for fun and to see what all the fuss was about. The Lines Between iPod Touch and iPhone Have Started to Blur

Having had a chance to spend a little time with a review model gives me a chance to share the experience with you a bit early (before my own arrives). I'll take you hands-on with the new model, plus I'll share from my past two years of iPod touch ownership altogether, especially for those who haven't yet owned (or been owned by) one of these mobile gems.I've also hidden a treasure trove of info on how you can legitimately download tons of quality apps for free. First though, let's quickly cover what's new.+ Faster 1GHz A4 Processor - to keep up with the high demands of multitasking+ Ultra high resolution "Retina display" - packs a 960 x 640 resolution at 326 pixels per inch+ 15% larger battery - 3.44 Whr/930 mAh plays 7 hrs of video & 40 hrs of audio+ Rear-facing camera - supports 960 x 720 sized photos (0.6 megapixels), plus 720p HD videos+ Front-facing VGA-quality camera - VGA-quality is a resolution of 640 x 480 (0.3 megapixels)... 5/5 Scott Showalter "purefusion" (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews, September 7, 2010

    This thing rocks!

*This review is from someone who never owned any Apple products before, married, healthcare professional, blackberry and palm TX owner (yeah I know, belongs in a museum), I was looking for a handheld internet browser by wifi, no monthly fees for 2 years, with camera, video, and apps that i can use for my work, and put in my pocket and it led me to this device. This is therefore a completely un-technical, layman's review.1. Delivery time: I was supposed to receive this September 10-14 with the regular shipping, but I got it today, maybe because I ordered it as soon as Steve Jobs finished presenting, so this deserves more than 5 stars!2. Dimensions/looks: I actually prefer the "handling" of the bigger and heavier 3rd gen that I borrowed, its all smudge now without any cover, but boy! this is the most beautiful handheld device that I ever held, 4 stars for being smaller and lighter and smudgy.3. Display: The retina display is amazing! Who Needs an iPhone?

Wooow! I need to catch my breath...Let me begin by saying I'm an economist. Logos do not impress me. Excellent price/performance ratios impress me. Although I must admit, the Exhibit II is a fairly beautiful phone in real life; don't let the photos scare you. This powerful yet humble device has the same memory (512MB RAM) and CPU speed (1GHz) as the iPhone 4. And, dare I say, it actually makes phone calls. It even has a larger screen than the latest $700+ iPhone 4S. Still with me?Why I bought this phone (with a new prepaid plan):>1. Freedom: With T-Mobile's prepaid plans, you can start or stop your service anytime without any fines. You can switch carriers, sell your phone, and walk away without even saying goodbye.>2. Screen: The 3.7" screen is bigger than the one on the iPhone 4S. The 800x480 resolution makes for a relatively high pixel density (252 ppi) and looks fantastic.>3. No problems with it so far, and it runs great with CyanogenMod 9 (free of T-Mobile bloatwares). If you want a custom ROM but need to use the camera, go with another Gingerbread ROM such as XquiziT and RebelROM. Awesome phone at this price and great plans

I have been researching pre paid phones and plans for a while now and this phone with the pre paid plans T-mobile has is a great deal. The phone is really nice for a $200 buyout phone. It has great sound quality (both earpiece and speakerphone). I am coming from the original Droid on Verizon. The camera on the phone is very decent. Certainly as good as the 5mp on the Droid and faster too. I like T mobiles wi-fi calling from home..it allows me to run on my own wifi system if T-Mobiles signal is weak indoors. Video chat using Gtalk works very well. The phone comes with Kies Air for wireless transfers from your laptop and Yelp (for finding all those nice places to do business with). The GPS system works very well and the web is super fast on T-Mobiles great 4G (and I get it almost everywhere even in places my friends do NOT get Wimax on Sprint. The phone is very light and smaller in size than the Droid (but with same screen size). It has a textured back for better grip. The battery... 5/5 Chris Baker "cb2000a" (Hawaii) - See all my reviews, November 3, 2011

I had a need for using Android in a research setting for advancedmobile networking. Though I have a strong Java and mobile programmingbackground, I have no familiarity with Android. I needed to get upto speed quickly, and thought I would go with an OReilly book, usuallya good bet.I ended up using the intro to quicklyget started with eclipse, and then moved into the view section to puttogether an interface without much trouble (useful examples),and am looking at theadvanced sections to learn about Android's NFC feature. The 3rdsection is enlightening, saving me from some design mistakes that I wassure to make. I did, however, feel that some of the information in thelater chapters was overmy head, targeted at an audience with more outside knowledge.Overall, the book is both good at introducing the basics of Android, and covering the more advanced topics. 5/5 eric j larson - See all my reviews This review is from: Programming Android (Paperback) I had a need for using Android in a research setting for advancedmobile networking. Great Book on Android

I have been waiting for a while for a book like this for Android Technology. I have been doing general programming for several years. I found this book very educational and here are a few sections in the book that really stood out:Chapter 7 of the book titled "Building a View" provides an excellent understanding on how the "views" in Android work. The explanation by the authors, using diagrams showing how the traditional model view controller architecture comes together in Android is very educational. I have been waiting for a good tutorial along these lines for some time.Chapter 12 and 13 deal with content providers. The extensive treatment of content providers with example code and a sample application provided me several new insights in how this technology works, and how it can be used in real programming situations. The content provider framework for storing and referencing data using URIs is one of the novel features of the Android operating system. A must read in a new generation of Android books.

This book goes past the basics and provides a deeper level of understading of every topic it touches. It has a particular focus on how Android's data archiecture provides a model for apps that use a Web service, improving apperent performance and presentation of data.It is also the first in-depth book to cover Fragment and related classes that go into making Android tablet user interfaces. Additionally, it covers the compatibility library that enables running Fragment-based UIs on pre-Honeycomb versions of Android. 5/5 A. Jaokar (UK) - See all my reviews, August 8, 2011

nice hardware, shame about Sony Ericsson

This is nice hardware. It works well with AT&T in the USA. There's no Android upgrade for it. Sony Ericsson (SE) put out a press release in October say upgrades to Android 2.1 had started. For now, this is the best the US has

This micro SDHC card is the best in the US market. Samsung has developed a 32GB one but it is only available in Asia at the time of this writing. With that said, this is a good card. I bought it for my Blackberry Curve 8300. If you are going to use it for a Blackberry, make sure that you have the Blackberry OS 4.5 or later as it will not read the whole 16GB if you do not.Even though this is a Class 2 card (the 16GB Class 4's, like the 32GB cards, are only available in Asia right now), it reads and writes fairly quickly. The card is fast enough to record and play videos on my Curve, and saving a couple minute video after shooting it literally takes seconds to write.I have two minor gripes about this card, and they aren't that bad. One is the price. You can get an 8GB card for less than half of the price of this one. However, it is still "new" so that's the penalty for being an early adopter. The other gripe I have is that with the Samsung reader (see... 4/5 Michael J. Works with a Sansa Fuze

The card arrived when they said it would. Took it out of the box and stuck it in my MP3 player, the Sansa Fuze (2GB model) and it recognized it immediately and I was able to start putting music on it (didn't need to format it). I put about 10GB of music on it which took roughly 2 hrs to load. After the initial upload of all my music. Adding a new album only took a couple of minutes. After I disconnect the Fuze from the computer it took approx 8-10 minutes to refresh the media library. I have the latest firmware update for the Fuze (maybe older firmware versions are slower - I don't know). The upload speeds didn't bother me because I'm only loading my whole library once and then its only a song/album or two at a time and that's only a few minutes. The card came with a SD adapter - so if you have a SD reader your set. I now have a 18GB MP3 Player! 5/5 K. Bunker (Salt Lake City, UT) - See all my reviews, March 28, 2009

Beware high failure rate of this card! :(

I bought this card in February 2009 and it eventually failed by May 2009. I have of course only anecdotal evidence, but if you search around the Sandisk support forums and other places, you will find a lot of very upset customers complaining of the high failure rate of these Sandisk 16GB SDHC cards after a 2-3 months of use. To compound the problem, Sandisk only offers a 30 day return or refund period warranty on their flash memory cards which is atrocious in my opinion!! Unfortunately, most resellers here on Amazon only have a 30 day return policy as well assuming you have the product still in the original packaging. So overall, you are screwed if and WHEN the card does eventually fail. Thus, I recommend you not rely on this card to store important data like pictures and such. I unfortunately found this out the hard way. It just seems that this card is just not as reliable as advertised, and I am quite disappointed in the lack of at minimum one year manufacture's warranty for... 1/5 G N Math (Chicago) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Hero H2000

This is a great phone. Most people would get this because of the dual-sim capability, like the other guy, but I got this because of it's Android operating system. Compared to an actual HTC phone, my G1, the H2000 performs a lot better, especially in performance. So I would consider this an upgrade. So when you first get the package, it'll come in a nice box that says Hero on the top, and H2000 on the bottom. Inside, you'll find the phone itself, 2 batteries, a usb cable(looks like an iphone cable, but I heard they are slightly different) , 1 pair of headphones, a usb charging adapter, the user manual, and a screen protector, which is really nice. So now, I am going into a full review haha. Hope you have time to read this (:Out of the box, you'll notice the design of the phone. It resembles an iPhone 4, it even has the actual home button. But take a closer look and you'll notice that there is a Back, Menu, Home, and Search Touch Pad like buttons like on one of those HTC... 5/5 Sofia Youk "Sofia's Son" - See all my reviews, July 20, 2011

Bought it for dual sim capability and it works great - plugged both sims in and recognized in short order -- nice to be back to carrying one phone! All US carriers will tell you there is no such thing as a dual sim phone -- yeah right. Both sims work on quad band so either should work just about anywhere in the world. When you make call it will give you a choice of which sim to use and when you receive a call it lets you know which SIM is receiving.Touch screen great and responds very well to commands. Navigating through pages is easy (this is my first smart phone deal and I am able to pick it up easy). Instruction book a bit thin on instructions so just fooling around with the phone top learn it is really best alternative. Some intstructions on the phone still in Chinese so I need to change this -- found something on line to help.It does have GPS and seems pretty cool although I have the data feature turned off -- don't want to pay for a data plan.WIFI is... 5/5 NR H200 Review - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Mediocre

Pros: 2 sim cards works just fine and simultaneously, Android 2,2 is a great softwear.Against: Poor battery life (2-3hs when fully functioning!!), certain menus in Chinese (may be a problem if you are not familiar with android), take ages to turn on, there is no screen calibration tool and it will often misinterpret dialing, low definition camera (won't read barcodes, for example), won't run skype, comes with headset of bad quality and performance. Also, GPS simply do not work without data transmission assistance. 2/5 Pedro Ming (SAN FRANCISCO, CA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Efficient tour through basic Android programming

Learning Android is a very nice tour through developing Android applications. It's aimed at programmers who are comfortable with Java already, and doesn't waste any time getting into what's different about Android programming. If you're looking for a guide to save you a lot of time getting from "absolute Android beginner" to "comfortable consulting the API documentation on your own", I think Learning Android is quite a good choice. Most of the book is devoted to incrementally developing a simple Twitter app. Whether you like or dislike this style of exposition is something of a personal preference, but I will say the chapters are chosen pretty well, and aside from the obvious fact that later chapters assume the code from the previous ones, I never found myself needed to flip backwards a lot, which can sometimes be a problem with books that try to develop a single application over a few hundred pages.I think I'm probably representative of the target audience for... 4/5 Deon Garrett (Reykjavík, Iceland) - See all my reviews, March 30, 2011

    Learning Android by Marko Gargenta

Learning Android by Marco Gargenta is what I would consider a high level introductory book for those well grounded in Java or have a strong OO development background and don't mind coming up to speed in order to learn Android. If you like to learn by building out non-trivial applications in a style that mimic's real world development then consider this book.I have been writing Java code on and off since Java was considered one of those fringe languages for those a bit off kilter OO types. I also have a style of learning that is not book oriented. I seem to prefer the ad hoc "random walk in the woods" approach. Good for discovering a lot of interesting stuff, not so good at getting a well oriented systematic approach to developing in new areas. When Learning Android by Marco Gargenta was release I decided to have a go at a more direct approach. Since I had been developing in Android for several years this was not my traditional behavior. The book is well suited... 5/5 SWHansen - See all my reviews This review is from: Learning Android (Kindle Edition) Learning Android by Marco Gargenta is what I would consider a high level introductory book for those well grounded in Java or have a strong OO development background and don't mind coming up to speed in order to learn Android. Welcome to Android's world

Developing Android based application is like any other development. You have to get tools, learn basics and explore the details of the API. Learning Android covers first two topics.First of all, you can get the overview of Android, what it does, who develops it and so forth. You can call it an overview from 9K feet height. After that you are explained how Android is organized and how all the system layers are organized. This is quite useful part because you can get the feeling what to expect when it comes to the API. Then you will be guided through the initial setup that allows you to develop Android based applications. This part is quite useful, because it allows you to get all the information required for preparing development environment. You will be, literally, lead step by step how to configure everything (at this point you can tell that Marko has some experience when it comes to providing people with tutorials - you are simply not able to go wrong here). One remark... 3/5 mko "mko" (Poland) - See all my reviews This review is from: Learning Android (Paperback) Developing Android based application is like any other development. A great device WHEN you consider price and function, with a few flaws

The first and most important thing that should be said about the Kindle Fire is that this is not an "iPad-killer." It is not designed to be. I have seen so many articles and comments comparing this to the iPad, and surveys where people are asked if they will be buying a Kindle Fire over an iPad this Christmas. If you are expecting an iPad, or even a tablet, you will be disappointed. The main purpose of this device is to deliver Amazon content to you more effectively. It is designed for consumption, not creation. That is the reason it is so cheap and why Amazon is taking a loss on it. They are hoping to make up for that loss through sales of videos, music, books, and apps through Amazon's Web Services. You can also use it to view your own movies and media, but will find that it is more limited in that way than a regular tablet. Personally, as someone who has ordered several rentals from Amazon Video, and had to contact customer support for every single one of them due to... 4/5 Scott - See all my reviews, November 14, 2011

Great device, you will enjoy it

I picked mine up today at Best Buy. At home I plugged it in and set up the WIFI and my Amazon account and it immediately told me that an update was downloading. After about 10 to 12 minutes it rebooted and started working. I own an iPhone, iPad 2, HP Touchpad and a Kindle Keyboard version. This device compares with the Ipad. The reviews that blast the Kindle Fire as being no good are just not true. I am a retired CEO and computer Guru and have a great WIFI set up in my home. Here is my quick and dirty review:WIFI fast and easy to set up and useKeyboard types great, much better than the HP Touchpad and as good if not better than the iPad.Display high resolution comparable to the iPad 2The device downloaded my 100 books in minutes. Most books downloaded to the device in 3 to 4 seconds. A couple of large books took 5 seconds and I am talking about books with 800 pages!Web browsing is extremely fast. Outstanding Value at $199 and Full of Functionality / Bells / Whistles

I've had a chance to play with the Kindle Fire for a few hours now, and overall I think it is a great tool /toy when you factor in the cost of ownership and what you get. Compared to $500 minimum for the introductory price of the bottom of the line iPad2 (WiFi only), at $199 this is a great buy.Using a Wifi connection at two different locations, the speed was pretty fast connecting to the Amazon server as well as to a couple of Internet sites. I had fast connectivity and display on Fox News, CNN, my personalized Yahoo page, and the website of the International Association of Penturners (hey, I do have hobbies!). I had slow connectivity at both Wifi locations with Google, ESPN, MSNBC, the Houston Chronicle, and the Weather Channel - I hope the unique app for ESPN and the Weather Channel are a lot faster, but I haven't loaded them onto the Fire yet. I will point out with the exception of the Google website, those other sites listed as slow are usually slow on my other... 5/5 Michael Gallagher (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews, November 15, 2011

Unusable without moto blur service and would not register for it

Bought this phone to use with TMobile To-Go prepaid SIM. Could not get it registered with Moto Blur, which is required before doing anything else on the phone. Cannot bypass this service, which copies all your contacts to a Motorola website. Didn't have data network so went to wifi hotspot (2 separate occasions) to register. Tried many times, had several calls to Motorola Customer Service trying to resolve issue. Phone would not register to Moto Blur: different error messages, main one was Motor Blur Service not currently available. Phone was useless without it, had to return. In addition this phone doesn't work like normal android, does not have the usual buttons to access phone settings. Everything but wifi is locked out until you register with Moto Blur. 1/5 shopper99 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
