Open Life. Motorola Backflip with Motoblur

This is a great product. It is small, yet has a larger screen then expected. It has Motorola's imfamous Motoblur, which, may I say, is awesome, and it arrived so fast that Amazon said it hadn't even been shipped yet. Seriously. That happened. Lol! Battery life is great, and experiencing this phone is quite frankly amazing. It includes access to the Android Market, which has thousands of great apps (not redundant ones like Apple's Appstore has, with repeats of the same thing over and over, which is the reason they have millions of apps), and it has a brilliant screen even though the resolution isn't HD like Apple iPhone's "Retina" display. The three touch-sensitive buttons at the lower front of the phone are completely responsive, and it has a great 5MP camera for the average user. It also films digital video for those greater moments in life, and it has a great browser. This phone is upgradable to Google's Android 2.1 OS, which allows you other great new features. It has a GPS that I... 5/5 Lance Lane - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Do your research before purchasing!!!!

I have had the Motorola BackFlip for about 2 years. I would love to purchase a new phone however funds are limited. The phone worked well for about 3 months. It shuts off whenever it wants and it freezes all the time. Force close messages all the time. My advice to anyone looking into purchasing a backflip is to do research. The update for it does not work. You can not use alot of applications because of that. I can say one good thing about the phone is it is durable. Mine still looks like it just came out of the box. Other than that I have nothing good to say about this phone. The touch screen works when it feels like it. I can only make calls when the phone cooperates. And if you have too many apps like more than 5 it slows the phone down tremendously. Do your research before purchasing. 1/5 Dina M. Pavia (Dingmans Ferry, PA) - See all my reviews, January 6, 2012

Not even usable as trash can fodder

Received the phone as promised. Thats the only good thing I can say for the phone. Phone is set up for AT&T. I use T-Mobile. All the pre loaded applications were for AT&T so none worked for me. I couldn't delete any of the app's and I couldn't download any. The contacts list woluld only show a history, not my contacts which I tried to load. Occasionally the contact list would pop-in. I never figured out what I did to reteive it, it just appeared magically when it wanted. The only things I could do with the phone was to send and receive phone calls. I paid $147.00 dollars for somewhat of a smartphone that would only do what my five year old basic cell phone already does. I'm sending it back to Amazon, thankfully they are only going to charge me $6.00 to take it back. The only accessory in the box was the AC adapter and a owners book which is totally worthless. Don't waste your time and patience with this phone. I'm going to a T-Mobile store and get a real phone. 1/5 John K. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) nice hardware, shame about Sony Ericsson

This is nice hardware. It works well with AT&T in the USA. There's no Android upgrade for it. Sony Ericsson (SE) put out a press release in October say upgrades to Android 2.1 had started. If that was not a bold-faced lie, there's a sin of omission because my X10 mini is no upgrade available according to the PC software SE put out. There's no Mac equivalent of this software either :-(Upgrade is out now (Dec 24th). Had to update PC-Companion software first. First time through my internet connection died while the newer PC-Companion software downloaded Android 2.1. Inexplicably the 1.6firmware on the phone is wiped before the 2.1 version is downloaded. Nice and delicate

The phone is nice, shick and stylish. it is very small, which is good in part since you won't feel its existence when you're not using it, but this would probably be bothering when you need to use it.The battery works for 1 day maximum (without turning the GPS on, nor wi-fi) which is very troubling. 3/5 Aly - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) superior amazon service.

I had read all the negative reviews for this phone but the good ones out weighed the bad so I decided to give it a go. The unit I was sent was defective out of the box and I remembered all the people advising against it. I contacted amazon and they immediately sent out a new phone and gave me a ups label to return the defective one @ no extra cost. The second phone has been working perfectly and amazon's superior customer service took some of the sting off of getting a non working unit the first time. On an additional note, all those warnings of poor battery life, I've gotten the battery so far to go 36 to 40 hours btwn charges. over all it has been worth the price, just be sure to buy from amazon directly as you will then have the their guaranty backing you up. 4/5 robert - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent - Great

I have it for two weeks and has been excellent.Everything described in the description of the phone is what I saw.An excellent phone, from applications to the release has been wonderful.I recommend it.The only downside is the length of the battery, but I bought two extra batteries and I'm always the data cable and thus the charge into any USB port, so the problem is resolved. Thanks and greetings from Costa Rica 5/5 Guido - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Hero H2000

This is a great phone. Most people would get this because of the dual-sim capability, like the other guy, but I got this because of it's Android operating system. Compared to an actual HTC phone, my G1, the H2000 performs a lot better, especially in performance. So I would consider this an upgrade. So when you first get the package, it'll come in a nice box that says Hero on the top, and H2000 on the bottom. Inside, you'll find the phone itself, 2 batteries, a usb cable(looks like an iphone cable, but I heard they are slightly different) , 1 pair of headphones, a usb charging adapter, the user manual, and a screen protector, which is really nice. So now, I am going into a full review haha. Hope you have time to read this (:Out of the box, you'll notice the design of the phone. It resembles an iPhone 4, it even has the actual home button. But take a closer look and you'll notice that there is a Back, Menu, Home, and Search Touch Pad like buttons like on one of those HTC... 5/5 Sofia Youk "Sofia's Son" - See all my reviews, July 20, 2011

All US carriers will tell you there is no such thing as a dual sim phone -- yeah right. Both sims work on quad band so either should work just about anywhere in the world. When you make call it will give you a choice of which sim to use and when you receive a call it lets you know which SIM is receiving.Touch screen great and responds very well to commands. Mediocre

Pros: 2 sim cards works just fine and simultaneously, Android 2,2 is a great softwear.Against: Poor battery life (2-3hs when fully functioning!!), certain menus in Chinese (may be a problem if you are not familiar with android), take ages to turn on, there is no screen calibration tool and it will often misinterpret dialing, low definition camera (won't read barcodes, for example), won't run skype, comes with headset of bad quality and performance. Also, GPS simply do not work without data transmission assistance. 2/5 Pedro Ming (SAN FRANCISCO, CA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) My new phone

This phone is good and works with different SIM Cards as advertised, but comes without the Manual and/or the Software which took me a long tome to find on the NET without paying somebody. The disturbing fact is that it is falsely advertised as having a 1 year US Warranty, however it is not supported by Samsung USA at all and I was advised to contact Samsung Philippines by e-mail (no toll-free number)and their response was below any expectation, but lucky I have managed to resolve the Bluetooth problem myself. The Manual I have found has mistakes regarding the correct settings in some areas.I wish Amazon will review the Warranty Policy for this product and advise how to proceed if the Service is neededI.T. 3/5 I.T. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) One phone has the "Sleep of Death" issue

Have two of these phones for a couple of weeks. One phone works perfectly, no issue whatsoever. The other one has the SOD ' Sleep of Death' issue multiple times. SOD = phone shuts itself off. Google solutions and tried them all but nothing works. Downloaded the lastest OS - Gingerbread 2.3.4 thru Samsung Kies but issue remains. This one is going back for an exchange. Neither of the phone is rooted.Overall I really like the phone, value vs. price and I think you are not going to get a better deal. A good beginner android phone that is almost iphone like.Pros: Screen size 3.5" is perfect for me. The overall phone size isn't too big either. Plenty of free apps to download. Gingerbread improves the battery life.Cons: Internal memory is small. You won't be able to download a lot of apps. And you can't install the apps to the external SD card unless you root the phone (become a superuser) but that immediately voids the warranty. Great!

This is a geat phone! It looks cool, feels really good in your hand and is easy to use. I believe this model description says it comes with fryo 2.2 but it actually comes with an upgrade to 2.3. The box also contained a black and white plastic cover for the phone. Both of these were a nice surprise. The picture is clear and really nice. Netflix works really well. Android system allows for an endless supply of apps. I wanted to get an otterbox cover for this phone but it dosnt appear they make one. Oh well. I bought this phone unlocked because i live in Costa Rica, so i needed a phone which works with the local carrier, and this phone turn to be the best purchase i could do, it works with the 850mhz 3G network of the ICE(Costa Rica s goverment carrier) and the android 2.2 Froyo installed works perfect, with a brilliant 4inch amoled and the fast 1ghz processor. I recomend to buy also an Otterbox Box Case for this device, which fits great. I bought it at $374.99 and is the best deal i could find for a phone with this technical details. 5/5 The Black Knight (Miami) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Read comments on apps/upgrades

After shopping around, I decided to go with the Captivate. I'm very glad I did. This phone is intelligently designed, versatile, has a lot of memory, and very few cons. The display is big, bright and crystal clear. I have froyo (2.2) which seems to have resolved a number of problems earlier versions had.One bit of advice: before you download any app or upgrade, read the customer comments. They will usually tell you better than anything else whether that particular app or upgrade is a good one. Some upgrades only install more advertising. It's also a good idea to read permissions.A lot of people have battery drain issues with this phone. Disabling Background Data under Settings/Accounts and sync seems to help with this problem. 5/5 Paul B - See all my reviews This review is from: Samsung i897 Captivate Android smartphone Galaxy S (Unlocked) (Unlocked Phone) After shopping around, I decided to go with the Captivate. Very GOOD!

The phone is really the best mobile I've ever had.It has all the modern functions and runs great, smooth, beautiful..Though AT&T is really ruining it with all the bloatware and stuff..Runs flawlessly on ECLAIR (Android 2.1). Has some minor bugs and lags after I flashed Froyo(android 2.2)..Overall great mobile for normal price. 5/5 Gio (Tbilisi) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent Phone! finally motorola redeems itself

So basically, I'm in Costa Rica, the phone works just fine, is supposed to be 4band and 4band 3G too so it will work with any carrier. I've had it for about 2 weeks and I can tell you is WONDERFUL. The screen is not hard to look at, is not too small, the screen resolution is very good so all that crap you hear is untrue but of course if you compare it to an EVO or an iPhone display obviously it will fall short. I have all sorts of apps installed on it and they work like a charm i send emails, sms, pictures quite fast, the processor runs like a charm I use app killer because i'm a dork but is not necessary. Battery life was a huge concern i was affraid when i bought it and again proved to be a myth i just lowered the backlight brightness and i easily make it thru the day and back home and still have 15-25% juice. The Only reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of 2 HUGE improvement opportunities:#1 the camera is quite crappy... it will take your occasional... 4/5 Haruka-J (Heredia, Costa Rica) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Unusable without moto blur service and would not register for it

Bought this phone to use with TMobile To-Go prepaid SIM. Could not get it registered with Moto Blur, which is required before doing anything else on the phone. Cannot bypass this service, which copies all your contacts to a Motorola website. Didn't have data network so went to wifi hotspot (2 separate occasions) to register. Tried many times, had several calls to Motorola Customer Service trying to resolve issue. Phone would not register to Moto Blur: different error messages, main one was Motor Blur Service not currently available. Phone was useless without it, had to return. In addition this phone doesn't work like normal android, does not have the usual buttons to access phone settings. Everything but wifi is locked out until you register with Moto Blur. 1/5 shopper99 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) It's a great phone for the price range.

I bought this exact model (but with a green back cover) in China in October 2011. I needed something cheap, and I needed it fast. I didn't want to spend too much money, because I wouldn't be there for more than a few months. My only reason for purchasing it was to call people, send texts, use Google Translate, and use Baidu maps to get around. Fortunately, I was also able to tether right out of the box as well -- and connect my laptop when I was in rural China. If you're a frequent traveler, global roaming is a giant money scam. I suggest buying yourself an unlocked phone, and just switching in SIM cards in the country of your choice... if they support them. Many places will let you pay month-to-month. For example, in China, I'll pay about $10.50 per month for a pretty decent package. Compared to the global roaming packages, this is a steal. You need to ask yourself: what do you want, and how much are you willing to pay for it? If you want an awesome smartphone,... 4/5 Xiong Mao - See all my reviews This review is from: Unlocked Samsung S5570 Galaxy Mini Touchscreen, Wi-Fi, 3G, Android International Smart Phone in Steel Gray (Wireless Phone Accessory) I bought this exact model (but with a green back cover) in China in October 2011. Small, compact and great for a starter Smartphone

A friend owns the same phone and I was able to test it out before purchasing one. As other reviewers have brought out, the battery life is quite bad. Be prepared to charge your phone every night if you run a lot of apps. I'll be looking into getting a new battery with higher capacity. The Qwerty keyboard while texting can be a tad small, easily fixed by turning the phone on the vertical, buttons are slightly larger then. The other 'complaint' about this was that it came without an ear-piece, easily rectified by getting one cheap online. As for it being truly unlocked, I haven't been able to test that function out yet. We travel frequently to Asia and I hope it works there. All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase, esp for the price paid.Update 10/14/11: Wanted to note too, the adapter that is provided for N. America customers is totally worthless as the charger comes with the 3 rectangular prongs. The adapter provided will not fit, so be prepared to buy your own adapter... 4/5 catchnoball (tucson, az) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good phone but some issues to be aware of

Due to some discussion about very different flavors of this phone being shipped by different sellers, this review is for a phone sent to me by UNLOCKED CELL PHONE KINGS INC via Amazon. Delivery was prompt and the item was in brand new condition (if it wasn't they sure did a great job making it look that way). Mine came with a very brief manual (if you want to call it that) in English, with the phone set to UK English. This is my first even semi-smart phone, but I have some experience as an Android tablet user so it wasn't all new to me.I have several USB cables with male USB mini connectors. This phone uses a USB micro connector for charging and data transfer so I bought some mini-to-micro adapters so I could use the stuff I have, but the adapters turned out to be useless. The female USB micro port on the phone is recessed in the housing such that the male USB micro fits only if it will fit inside this very, very small housing. The adapters I bought, though small,... 4/5 Jeff Pittman "Jeff" (Durham, NC USA) - See all my reviews, February 13, 2012

Phone is great but NOT unlocked!

I purchased this product about one month ago and bought another for my wife. The phones were delivered on time. The ones I purchased online had no carrier logos but upon arrival I discovered T-mobile branding on them. So I thought 'ok, no problem - it's supposed to be unlocked,' and went ahead and slipped in my sim card. What I did not mention as yet is that I live in Trinidad and Tobago (in the Caribbean) and travel a lot, hence the purchase of an unlocked phone. Upon switching on the phone, I was greeted with a very cool green Android guy. Unfortunately, I could not get past that screen - because lo and behold, the phone was not unlocked (as advertised)! The only reason I did not automatically return the phones at this point (as advised by the Amazon Rep.) is because it would have been such a hassle to do so. That's only the first part of the problem. I then thought that I could just get the phones unlocked by those smart tech people you see in the malls all over... 2/5 Nari - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Surprise: phone has a crack on the back and locked to T-Mobile

I bouhgt this 'unlocked' phone to be used with AT&T. I know AT&T insists data plan for smart phones, which I don't need, since I have wifi most of the time. But I also know AT&T closes an eye on non-AT&T smart phones. I'm very happy with the phone, except for a few problems that I encountered:1. The vendor did not disclose a crack on the back cover, and that the phone was actually locked to T-Mobile.2. The phone came with old firmware, probably Android 1.5, I couldn't tell, since I couldn't get pass the google log in (requires network data connection, no Wifi). This first generation firmware only works for people who have T-Mobile account with data plan.3. I went to a T-Mobile store and signed up for T-Mobile prepaid plan, got a new T-Mobile SIM card. But still no network connection. The T-Mobile store wouldn't refund me the $25 cash that I handed to them 10 mins before, although the contract says I can cancel it the first 2 weeks. I did borrow 2... 4/5 Jerry Chu (Fremont, CA USA) - See all my reviews, March 26, 2011

    Phone

This may not be the fastest or the "Smartest" of phones but for the price its a great combination of everything. Its not bulky. I dont feel like im holding a book up to my head when im talking. The speakerphone works great. Text messaging is alot easier if you download Thick Buttons app from the market for free.Over all for toughness its survived some pretty hard falls and still has not broken. The battery life with just wifi on and a few programs running is good. It will last all day and part way into the next.Only thing i wish it had was a fold out or pull out QWERTY keyboard. But with the mentioned App it is so much easier for me to type. 4/5 Benjamin C. Good for the money

UPDATE: Most of my complaints about the phone have been solved with some research and I am changing my rating from 3 stars to 4. Biggest issue for me is that the flash isn't supported on the phone. A few hints if you buy the phone to save you some time:-When you move the sim from your old phone to this one and access your contacts, they appear to be un-editable. Instead of tapping or double-tapping the contact, press on it instead. In a second or so, a menu will appear with options to edit, delete, etc. Also there is the option to export to PC-sync which I recommend. After you do that, the contact will be in there twice. After syncing your contacts, I'd get rid of the old.-The default language on this is German. That's easy enough to fix in most places but the keyboard app was more obstinate. I took a second tour through the settings and finally found the option for the default language for the keyboard.-Downloaded apps can quickly fill the phones... 4/5 Michael D.
