Aliph has made top-quality mono Bluetooth headsets for years, but the company has generally stayed away from the murky world of Bluetooth stereo. That changes with the Jawbone Jambox speaker set ($199.99 direct), the company's first foray into stereo. It's a small, battery-powered speaker that can play music from a wired or Bluetooth connection from your cell phone and also function as a speakerphone. It packs a surprising amount o

One of the Best I have used/own.
I just purchased the Jawbone this week. I did quite a bit of research before buying. I tend to be pretty skeptical of Bluetooth headsets. I currently own about 6 of them. Two different models of Plantronics, 2 models of Jabra, and 2 models of Motorola. This particular headset was of interest to me because I have a loud car (corvette) and none of my other headsets do an adequate job of cutting out the road and engine noise.I have only had the headset for a day however, I am impressed. I tried the Jawbone today in the Corvette and it works great. My wife didn't hear anything but me while I was driving, which is pretty amazing considering how loud the car is. I currently have the Blackberry 8830 and it works great with this headset. The voice dialing pops right up on queue, unlike some of the other headsets I have.So far the only negative is the fit which has been mentioned before. I prefer the in ear variation on the set versus over the ear. (The... 5/5 Dennis "bozhed" (American Canyon, CA, United States) - See all my reviews, June 8, 2007Okay, definitely not great
Like others, I think the best thing this headset has going for it is its noise cancellation technology. Unfortunately, it seems that Aliph spent so much effort on this part of it that they forgot quite a bit of other qualities that are important in a good Bluetooth headset.Examples of what's missing:There's no way to mute a call from the headset. You have to use your phone's mute feature. There's no audio alert when the headset connects with anything. There is one when it loses its connection, though, which is good.If you go out of range of your phone and it loses the connection, it makes no attempt to re-connect. You have to turn it off and turn it back on when you get back within range. The volume control is primitive, and it's obvious this is because Aliph was overly concerned with the aesthetic design of the thing (I happen to think it's ugly, but they seem quite pleased with it). Because the visual design doesn't leave... 2/5 W. J. I purchased my JawBone in Feb/Mar 2007 and I am currently on my third device, having had to return my previous two. I am planning on returning this one.First the positives, the sound quality is tremendous. I was using a Motorola set and it was adequate, but picked up external noise and never fit my ear particularly well.I use my JawBone with my Blackberry 8700. The first problem I noticed was that (unlike the Motorola), if I happened to not use my phone for, say 2-3 hours, the bluetooth connection would terminate and I would have to manually reconnect it, which was a headache given that the buttons are small and there is a connection delay. After calling Cingular, they said this was not normal and to return the device, which I did.My next JawBone had to go back within days as the bluetooth connection would drop in mid-conversation and then I'd have to repush the button; after this happens multiple times in one conversation, you finally just... 1/5 Slanted Ice (Indiana USA) - See all my reviews I purchased my JawBone in Feb/Mar 2007 and I am currently on my third device, having had to return my previous two. Simply Amazing
I've had over 20 headsets and am extremely fussy. This headset is by far the best is most ways.Fit:Its difficult to explain how it fits different, yet its comfortable and secure. The headset slides into the ear instead of being compressed into the ear.Quality of Voice in normal setting:Perfect. It's the only headset where I NEVER got a complaint.Noise Cancellation:Almost perfect. Just make sure the headset touches your face.I had Prince jamming on the radio where the windows in the house were rattling.I could barely hear the other person or myself, yet they could only hear a clip of the music every few seconds. They could hear me fine.Connection to Phone:This is where the biggest problems occurred. It sometimes took up to a minute of trying to get the headset to connect on my Palm Treo.My Blue Ant connects every time without a glitch. The only other headset that comes close is the... 5/5 Erb Avore "Erb Avore" (Mumbai, India) - See all my reviews, February 1, 2010Best Bluetooth Yet!
I'm really not very crazy about bluetooths (blueteeth?), but since I spend a lot of time driving, in California, with a manual transmission, it's kind of a necessary evil. That being said, iirc, the Jawbone Icon is the 5th bluetooth I've owned. It's also quite far and beyond the BEST bluetooth I've ever used!In the past, I've had problems with comfort, volume, background noise, charging, and even straight up defective units (plus I'm embarrassed to say, I'm an idiot and I somehow lost the most expensive one, a Plantronics 975). But I don't have any complaints about the Jawbone Icon!Comfort - comes with a bunch of different-size earpieces, and optional ear-hook. No prob!Volume - callers sound very clear to me. Previous handsfree devices I've used never had enough volume for me to hear clearly when I'm driving in the car. I don't think the Icon can actually adjust volume, except through the phone volume. Background noise - waaay waaay... 5/5 CL "-C" (Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews I'm really not very crazy about bluetooths (blueteeth?), but since I spend a lot of time driving, in California, with a manual transmission, it's kind of a necessary evil. For me, a headset must have excellent noise cancellation. Also, the headset must be loud enough to drown out surrounding noise. These trump all other features. Why have a headset if no one can hear me or I can't hear them, right? In fact, I will gladly give up comfort and features for a better noise canceling and/or louder headset. This headset is good, but the Jawbone 2, my headset before this one, has noticeably better noise cancellation.I wear my headset on the left side. I also find that the medium earbud, no loop, fits perfectly. It seems to seal out noise better than the small or larger earbuds. My 5'2" girlfriend needs the small one. All testing was done with a Sprint Palm Pre.I purchased 'The Thinker' from a Verizon Wireless store. Finally Jawbone gets it right!
I have used more bluetooth headsets than I can count from a range of manufacturers. Jawbone typically proved the most frustrating: excellent technology, good controls, and brilliant packaging marred by heavy weight, large size, use of proprietary chargers, poor fit, and weak sound. Over time, as the already incredible noise-canceling technology improved, the size and weight decreased, and output volume increased, leading to the small, featherweight Icon. The Icon also saw the first use by Jawbone of the micro-USB standard for mobile device charging. Sadly, the Icon still suffered from an unstable fit and tinny sound.Enter the Era, and at last, Jawbone has reached perfection (almost). Most on-line reviews will gush over Jawbone's ability to pack a larger, fuller-spectrum speaker into the same-size housing, and it's true: it is louder, and voices sound more natural, now that they have the "warmth" lacking from the Icon. I am a UPS driver and need the best bluetooth technology available. I have tried 5 other bluetooth models over the last 2 years, most recent being the Jawbone ICON, and my search has culminated to this new piece here, the ERA. The problem with the icon was its subpar volume when playing media, since I stream pandora from my cell phone for many hours a day. The new ERA is substantially louder and of much better quality. I cant put it on its loudest level because its too much, and I never thought I would have this much welcomed problem.I know the phone touts all this tap tap shake shake stuff, which is neat, but I just use it the regular old fashioned way.As for call quality, its outstanding. The phone is light and fits snug and comfortably with the jabra ear gel inserts I bought for the ICON but also fit perfect on the ERA. The best I have used, period
I read the reviews, both the positive and the negatives, and decided to give Jawbone a shot. I enjoyed my Jabra JX10 quite a bit for the 15 months that it worked, but to die 3 months out of warranty . . . So you can consider this a head to head comparison between the Jabra and Jawbone units.Fit and Comfort: The Jabra is clearly lighter so you can almost forget it is even on. The Jawbone is much larger and takes some work with the supplied earpieces, but in my case simply using the other earpiece that is supplied resulted in a very secure and comfortable fit. Yes, it is bigger, but for me, I can leave it on all day in comfort. Both units are quite good in this regards.Ease of use: The Jabra is somewhat more intuitive with clearly marked volume buttons vs. Jawbone's one-direction volume loop (press and the volume goes up until it reaches maximum and the next press goes to minimum). Other than this, however, the Jawbone is easy if your primary use is... 4/5 Michael A. Shoemaker (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews, November 2, 2007Jawbone
T. Tom obviously doesn't own a Jawbone or he would be giving it a better rating. The cheap plastic is actually military grade composit material, and it is usable in either ear, you simply must read the owners instruction guide if you are not smart enough to realise that those spare ear loops that are included with the Jawbone are to replace dirty or worn out ear loops and all you have to do to switch ears and insert the loop from the opposite side (now you can use it in the other ear). The noise cancelling is the best in the world. I work in the marine industry and always receive calls - no complains about noisy engines with my Jawbone. 5/5 B. Nowlin "BWN" (Louisiana) - See all my reviews, August 10, 2007It works very well
On a relative scale (comparing to other headsets), I would rate this 5 stars. Its at the top of the heap in actual performance. On an absolute scale, I only gave it 4 stars because there is still room for improvement.- functional sound quality and hearing ability on both ends - very, very good. My validation tests include talking to my wife and my aging parents on the phone. I carry on conversations with everyone without being asked to repeat myself or being told that my voice is too soft. I have a projecting voice, so any complaints about softness in the past with other headsets had to be due to the headset. I frequently got complaints when using my plantronics 640 - not so with the Jawbone.- use in noisy environments - very good. Last night I was talking to my wife from a very noisy restaurant - so noisy I could barely hear myself think. But she could hear me clearly over the din and I was able to hear her easily. What a testament!- fit - fair... 4/5 W. R. Davis "Bob" (Houston, Texas United States) - See all my reviews, October 17, 2007

Aliph Jawbone 2 Bluetooth Headset (Bulk Packaging)
CE (Aliph)

Bulk packaging voids Jawbone warranty
I ordered a Jawbone Aliph here from TDC Direct because my Plantronics Voyager Pro wouldn't stay connected for the duration of a call.I like that on average, bulk packaging is much more ecofriendly. However, the Jawbone 2 I received wouldn't activate voice dialing on my hTC Tilt 2, so I called 800-JAWBONE for support.Jawbone's (corporate) support is excellent, and they're doing what they can for me, but they said officially, bulk packaging voids the Jawbone warranty and that any problems should be dealt with through Amazon. This detail should be included on this page as a purchasing factor, but isn't and is why I'm giving this particular item one star. 1/5 Douglas P. JawBonew is the SHizzle on the hearing and being heard tip. I have two problems with this thing.1- They don't give you enough little rubber ear buds to fit everybody. I have extremely small ear canals due to building up a tolerance to my wifes voice. The smallest is too small and the next size up stretches my hole ;)2- Noise Assasssin? How about some wind assassin. I knew going in that nothing really has a true wind blocker on it. But, come on. You say that it only picks up what you are saying (according to the multiple videos that show that pretty girl walking and talking while dude is running a jack hammer) because of that little tit on the bottom of the ear peice that sits on your face. I find that not to be the case. I have people ask all the time "What are doing/ What are you building/ or what the hell is going on"Other then that, it's a great little peice, no probs connecting to PS3, or my laptop for Skype calls. 3/5 J-Dizzle - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The smallest is too small and the next size up stretches my hole ;)2- Noise Assasssin? How about some wind assassin. I knew going in that nothing really has a true wind blocker on it. But, come on. You say that it only picks up what you are saying (according to the multiple videos that show that pretty girl walking and talking while dude is running a jack hammer) because of that little tit on the bottom of the ear peice that sits on your face. I find that not to be the case. I have people ask all the time "What are doing/ What are you building/ or what the hell is going on"Other then that, it's a great little peice, no probs connecting to PS3, or my laptop for Skype calls. This was a gift for my husband and he loves it. It came with more than one type of ear piece for different size of ears which is great and it blocks out all sounds. The transmission is wonderful and clear and crisp. He even uses it on the PS3 so it is really worth every penny! 5/5 Angela Perry - See all my reviews, April 8, 2010Bluetooth headset in black with military-grade noise elimination technology and invisible touch controlsPatented Voice Activity Sensor that feels your speechBulk Packaging. Major Improvements but 1 Major Flaw
I am a huge fan of the Aliph technology. The first Jawbone is still my favorite headset of all time. It was a workhorse and the ambient sound nullification was and still is far and away the best out there. The only faults I found in the original version were cleared up with the "New" Jawbone:The user's listening volume is much improved. People had no trouble hearing me when I was in loud environments, but it was often difficult for me to hear them. The volume on the new version is so much better that for the first time ever, I turned the volume down because it was too loud. The charging system on the first Jawbone was poorly designed. I've had three of them and it was a real trick to get the plug on the back of the headset to fit right for charging. The "New" Jawbone charging plug slips on easily and is held in place by a magnet- so much better! I have however, twice knocked the headset off the plug so once it is on, make sure you leave it where it... 3/5 L. Mastrangelo - See all my reviews, June 30, 2008Fit is crucial
The New Jawbone is just what I need for my iPhone and I find its quirks to be easy to get used to in exchange for fabulous sound quality. However, fit is crucial to proper operation and so be sure to buy from a store with very good return policies in case it doesn't fit your ears. Here's the biggest issue: The voice sensor must contact your cheek in order for noise suppression to work properly. If it does not touch your cheek, the people you are talking to will hear echo, hollow sound, clipped words or other distortion. The challenge is to get the earbud far enough into your ear that the sensor is aligned properly. I have what I believe are average ears and the smallest supplied rubber earbud is still a little too big.But as long as I remember to periodically adjust the Jawbone to keep it touching my cheek, it works quite well. I am going to experiment with other earbuds (Aliph does not sell any sizes other than the S, M & L in the box).Much lesser... 4/5 Daniel H. Hamilton "danham" (Harwich, MA USA) - See all my reviews, June 12, 2008MiniGels are the key
With the included ear hooks and black donut shaped earbuds, this thing just won't stay where it is supposed to for me. Nearly every bad review seems to be about fit or sound, and with the Jawbone, sound depends on fit. If you can't get the New Jawbone to fit right, it is just not going to work correctly.I found Jabra MiniGels at my local Verizon store in a 4-pack for $3. It's actually 2 each of 2 sizes, marked "14" and "83", which the package claims is "two standard and two small". The "83" size is larger and that's what works for me. They fit tight, in place of the black donut earbuds. The angle that worked best for me is about 15 degrees upwards of pointing at the white Voice Sensor. I could angle them almost 45 degrees and then the MiniGel would go really deep into my ear and fit really tight, but after a few hours this was increasingly uncomfortable. For me, a lesser angle is still very secure without being as tight and irritating to my ear. The looser it is, the more... 4/5 Brian Gouge "Gadget Freak" (Salt Lake City, UT USA) - See all my reviews, June 16, 2008Over 4 hours of talk time and 8 days of standby timeMagnetic USB cable and wall charger delivers 80 percent charge in 35 minutes (full charge in less than 1 hour)Includes 3 earbuds, 2 leather earloops, and 2 slim earloops for a personalized fitBluetooth headset in black with military-grade noise elimination technology and invisible touch controlsPatented Voice Activity Sensor that feels your speech -

BEST HEADSET EVER!
The Jawbone Icon is the best bluetooth headset I have ever owned. A long time ago, I used to have a Motorola bluetooth headset and I loved it. I purchased the H270 Motorola bluetooth headset and thought I would love it. I ended up returning it because the Jawbone is a far superior product. The Motorola only lets you hear phone calls through the headpiece and not any audio, such as iPod or videos. The Jawbone is an 'in ear' headpiece and the Motorla was not. I prefer the 'in ear' headset.Pros1. Very small and lightweight2. Talks to you and tells you how much remaining talk time there is3. Displays a battery meter on the iPhone next to the battery meter of the phone4. BEST FEATURE - you can listen to ALL audio through the headset, not only phone calls, including the iPod and any videos you are watching5. Very quick to recharge6. I had the Jawbone 2 and really liked it. Based on my previous experience and the idea of a battery indicator on my phone, I decided to get a newer model the Icon. The good:1. Sound quality is good. Calls sound great and my callers hear me just fine.2. Easy to pair with my Samsung S 4G (Andoid 2.2 Froyo.)3. The ear buds are good. They fit snugly, are very comfortable, and block out external noise. They also fit over a hearing aid. (cough cough) However, it took a while to get used to them. You have to put them on as shown in the manual. You put the bud in and rotate the headset. It's most comfortable for me to use the medium size buds and put the loop off center about 10 o'clock. I won't take any stars off for the time it took me to figure out the headset because, like a real man, I don't read manuals.4. Easy to put on and take off. Doesn't fall out.5.
Now this is a bluetooth!
So, I returned my Jabra Stone (see review just posted)to the AT&T store where I purchased it with my iPhone. Before I left the house, though, I decided to see what other bluetooth I might want to try as a replacement. That very day, Aliph had released its Icon, and I read a couple of reviews from tech-types who had managed to snag one the moment they could get their hands on it. It sounded promising. However, the AT&T store did not have it yet, so I went to Best Buy. The clerk had not heard about it and called out to another clerk who was approaching with his arms full of boxes. Turned out that those boxes were the new Aliph Icons that he was about to put on display.I am not what anyone would call an "early adopter," but hey, I needed a bluetooth for a trip I was going on the next day, so I bought it, knowing that I could return it in 30 days if needed. We paired it to my phone quickly and I was on my way.Bottom line: I really like this bluetooth! It is the... 5/5 B. Pro:I bought the Icon as a replacement for the original Jawbone I got several years ago. So far I am very happy with the Icon, no one has mentioned a word about the voice quality, even over lengthy (45 minute) calls while I'm driving in traffic. I also like the fact that this unit not only speaks the incoming phone number but also can give me an indication as to the remaining battery life.Con:I had the same issue with this model that I had with the original. The earpiece fit drove me absolutely crazy. Either it was too loose to maintain decent contact with my face (and thus the noise assassin was useless) or after about a half hour my ear hurt so much I felt like someone was pushing a stick into my scull. My solution for the Icon is the same I employed for the original jawbone: dump the painfully offending design of the Aliph earpiece, and substitute the gel earpiece I loved from an old Jabra headset. Great headset. Awesome noise reduction
I have had this headset for about 3 months now. The noise reduction is remarkable. I can be in a airport and no one even knows I am out of my office.Wind is a problem with this headset as with any other headset. The noise reduction does not reduce wind noise. If it's a windy day you are out of luck but I don't know of any headset that works that way.Sound - The sound is a little tinny but you get used to it pretty quickly.Comfort - I have owned at least a dozen Bluetooth headsets and this is by far the most comfortable. There are different clips and ear pieces that come with the headset. I have worn it for over 8 hours straight and don't even know it's there.Charging - Propriety USB charger that plugs into the back of the phone. They also supply a plug for an outlet so you can charge it without your computer. I bought 2 chargers one for home and one for my laptop bag.Battery - Very good battery life. All the reviews and marketing I've heard for Jawbone, including the Demo on their website, tout how great the sound quality is. What they don't tell you is that it's only great for the person to whom the Jawbone user is speaking. But the sound is no different to the Jawbone user than any other Bluetooth headset. The charger attachment is cumbersome, and although I've only owned my Jawbone for 4 months, is already coming loose. Also, the Earloop is terrible. It's difficult to put it on, very uncomfortable, and breaks monthly. In the 4 months I've owned my Jawbone, I've had 4 Earloops break. And Jawbone doesn't allow you to buy just the replacement part that is right for you. Instead, you have to buy their full 4-pack, which has 2 different sizes for each ear. So to get the size that is right for you, you have to either buy a full 4-pack monthly (very expensive over time), or suffer as I have with Earloops that are not right, thus not confortable for you,... 3/5 Christopher M. After using the Jawbone for several months all I can say is I completely regret ever buying it. The sound quality is good, but nothing particularly special either despite all of their claims. The sound quality is a bit better than my previous $50 Motorola bluetooth headset. The main problem with the Jawbone, as many others have said, is the terrible fit. I typically wear the Jawbone for both legs of a 30 minute commute to work and at least half the time the Jawbone begins falling out of my ear requiring constant adjustment. When talking I usually have to hold the Jawbone into my ear with one hand so it works properly. Kinda defeats the purpose of a wireless headset.I've tried various combinations of the included earpieces and ear loops with no luck in finding a good fit.Not recommended. 2/5 magicker71 (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews This review is from: Jawbone Noise Shield Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Retail Packaged] (Wireless Phone Accessory) After using the Jawbone for several months all I can say is I completely regret ever buying it.
