Samsung promises a dual-core 2GHz smartphone 'by next year ...
Reports "a high-ranking" company official has disclosed Samsung's intention to deliver a dual-core smartphone that runs at 2GHz. That's 2GHz for each core, not the specious 1GHz multiplied by two mathematics that Sanjay Jha likes to dabble in. ARM already has a dual-core Cortex-A9 design capable of scaling such speed heights, which is most probably the basis on which Samsung is building its future processor on. The report goes on to state that Samsung will consider selling the chips separately, so you wouldn't necessarily have to buy a Samsung-branded handset in order to have what's being described as desktop-class performance in the palm of your hand. Man, just as we prepared one dual-core comparison chart , here comes the next

Smartphone?
Is wifi free without smartphone connect? Basically does it work like a laptop? I don't need the connect plan if i can just connect to my wifi for free
wifi is a phone feature, it should work without any data plan. Data plans are more for email, web surfing etc. Use a wifi hotspot or unsecure network and surf away.
smartphone?
what is the best smartphone for about £150?
For £150 your choices are pretty slim, the closest i think you will get to a smartphone is the Nokia N73. maybe check ebay, you might be able to get hold of a P990i for that much.

nice hardware, shame about Sony Ericsson
This is nice hardware. It works well with AT&T in the USA. There's no Android upgrade for it. Sony Ericsson (SE) put out a press release in October say upgrades to Android 2.1 had started. If that was not a bold-faced lie, there's a sin of omission because my X10 mini is no upgrade available according to the PC software SE put out. There's no Mac equivalent of this software either :-( Upgrade is out now (Dec 24th). Had to update PC-Companion software first. First time through my internet connection died while the newer PC-Companion software downloaded Android 2.1. Inexplicably the 1.6firmware on the phone is wiped before the 2.1 version is downloaded. This little machine is amazingly fast, the OS is very responsive and fluid, no lags as far as i own it, keep in mind using an app killer from the market to keep your phone running swiftly, writing is just fine with the classic alphanumeric on screen keyboard and predictive writing, the screen manages sunlight fine, and the goodies and features of android are a huge advantage of this phone. The cons are a few and that's why i rate it 4 stars, first the calling reception, it very impressive but not as good as a nokia, i live it a neighborhood with low reception and only nokias manage to have a decent signal, second this phone has an amazing music player in audio quality but no equalizer nor playlist, so it is featureless, and finally the battery will Only last a day with heavy usage, by day i mean unplugging it in the morning (5:30) and plugging it at night (24:00) The pros are so many that i really love this phone, is a minimonster capable of a lot of things,... 4/5 Xtrifer - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The phone is nice, shick and stylish. it is very small, which is good in part since you won't feel its existence when you're not using it, but this would probably be bothering when you need to use it.The battery works for 1 day maximum (without turning the GPS on, nor wi-fi) which is very troubling. 3/5 Aly - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) HTC DROID INCREDIBLE 2 Android Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Wireless (Verizon Wireless)
List Price: $599.99
A very worthy upgrade.
I have used the original Incredible since it came out one year ago. Loved it always, but had a few drawbacks. Those drawbacks are addressed in the Incredible 2. Screen size is now perfect at 4". I always found the 3.7" display on the original Incredible just a bit small. I find most 4.3" displays just a tad too large for my hands, so this is perfect. The sound quality in the earpiece during normal conversation is also much improved, not that it was ever bad, it's just clearer. Now, the biggest improvement-battery life. With the original Incredible during a normal day, no problem, but on days when I worked a 12 hour shift I had to carry an extra battery or charge the phone occasionally. No such issues with the Incredible 2. I used the phone as normal all day today and still had over 70% battery life remaining when I got home after 9 p.m.! I never charged it once in all that time. Is the Incredible 2 a dual core processor, no. Is it really fast, you bet. Is it 4G, again, no, but... 5/5 Michael J. DESIGN Overall it's a good sized phone. To me coming from an iPhone, the Incredible 2 has a similar look as the iPhone. The big difference is that the Incredible 2 is a bigger screen. I'm overall impressed with the design. It's sleek and fits well in the hands and pocket. It's not cumbersome like the HTC thunderbolt. I also like that that there is a notification light at the top of the phone (something that the iPhone does not have). The screen itself has good resolution, it might not be the Retina display of the iPhone or the super AMOLED of the droid charge, but to my eye it's good enough to watch movies clearly. HTC SENSE I really like the HTC Sense. Some people prefer the unadulterated google android system, but I think HTC sense is a very fluid system. I like the large clock in the center screen. I also love the weather clearly displayed on the home screen (often with cute animations, such as rain drops or clouds). I upgraded to the Incredible 2 from the LG Env Touch, so this is my first fully touch screen phone and my first Android. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, but I docked a star as it's not the most intuitive device and the apps can be a little frustrating for beginners. I tried several phones in the Verizon store and aside from streaming video (which I never do) I thought this phone was about as zippy as the Thunderbolt or Charge. I like the layout of this particular phone, the 4" screen is clear and bright and the size is a nice upgrade from the LG Env but not so bulky as the new 4.3" LTE phones. I like the LED notification that blinks when you have a voicemail/mail/text (and you can customize what will trigger the notification). The notification is well designed, you'll notice it but it's not so big/bright that it will be distracting to others. Lots of good free or cheap apps which make it very useful right out of the box. My honest review of the Thunderbolt - a week later
If you're looking for an honest review of the Thunderbolt (mind you, I've only had it a little less than 2 weeks at this point), please read on. First, a little background: I've been a Verizon customer for years. I previously had an LG Env2 for 3 years before buying the Thunderbolt. Like a lot of you, I'm sure, I waited and waited and skipped over several releases of the iPhone (on AT&T), desperately hoping for something equal or better on Verizon. For better or worse, I stood my ground and kept on waiting for something on Verizon. I was eligible for an upgrade about this time last year, but I never pulled the trigger on it for one reason or another. I guess I just never found a phone that really made me want to spend the extra money for the data plan (although the Droid Incredible came close). As soon as I heard that the LTE phones would start to roll out in early 2011, I knew I was waiting until that point to use my upgrade. My wife and I just bought a couple of these and we have been playing with them and learning their features for the last few days. Overall, we both like the phones a great deal, but there are still some issues. The good: 1. We both like the touchscreen keyboard features on this phone better than on other smart phones that we have tried. The phone gives you tactile feedback with a subtle vibration whenever you hit a key, and, as you get more used to this feedback it really speeds up your typing. I still find that I need to type in landscape mode, else the keys are too small for my fingers, but it really works pretty well. (2) Web-browsing is lightning fast and zooming in and out and moving across web pages seems instantaneus. This makes it very easy to read newspapers, etc. For me, this phone is as good as a tablet for reading newspapers. (3) The camera and the video recordings work pretty well. Due to limitations of the lens, etc.,... 4/5 Petur O. Jonsson (Fayetteville, NC USA) - See all my reviews, March 20, 2011Coming from an iPhone 4 user on AT&T...
As a previous iPhone 4 user, I would say I was apple brainwashed (or is it "applewashed"?) and thought the iPhone was the only smartphone worth considering. Well, the iPhone truly is a great phone, but a combination of AT&T's miserable service - including 5-10 dropped calls a day on average and terrible reception otherwise - the iPhone was often rendered a $700 smart paperweight unless WiFi was accessible. So why not get an iPhone 4 with Verizon you say? Well, after hearing about Verizon's new LTE network and the new HTC Thunderbolt I decided to take the plunge into Android for a change of pace. I will not talk much about Android itself, well, because this isn't a review of Android. However, I will say that I really like HTC's Sense overlay and the level of customization that is possible. HTC's platform and the Android GUI's feature set is impressive compared to the iPhone's cut and dry. I love the widgets and having instant access to a bunch of useful information on the... 5/5 R. Samsung Infuse 4G Android Phone (AT&T)
Wireless (Samsung)

Infuse vs Captivate
I've never had a phone or PDA where I didn't have to sacrifice a lot to get something else. Not with this one. I am a Google addict. I use Google Docs, Tasks, Contacts, GMail, Calendar, etc. So of course this phone works perfectly with all of that and syncs well with my Galaxy Tab, Windows 7 PC and MacBook Air. Before this I had a Captivate running Froyo and wasn't sure if switching would be worth the cost, as I mainly have just wanted a bigger screen. I don't know why iPhone does so well at only 3.5". You can't read text on something that small. I could barely stand 4" Captivate. 4.5" seems to be the sweet spot. Especially since the phone is so thin and light. Perfect width for telephone conversation and surfing, typing. The biggest surprise though is the battery life. I have never had a smartphone last a whole day and I do not talk much on them or play media. Just surfing, texting and updating calendar, tasks, etc usually drains the battery. On my... 5/5 Todd Stevens (North Carolina) - See all my reviews, May 19, 2011This Phone Is Snappy!
You are going to hear a lot of opinions on how this phone isn't dual core, isn't the Galaxy S II, too big, blah blah blah. Unless you simply must have the "next generation" phone this fall, if you are looking for the BEST AT&T Android phone, the Samsung Infuse is it. On paper, I didn't upgrade by much...I already had the pretty good Samsung Captivate. But after a few minutes with the Infuse, I could already tell this was a great phone. The performance is so snappy and quick. I don't have official benchmarks but for instance, I am a heavy Google Reader user. On the Captivate, when I would choose "Mark All Previous Read", it would take, on average, 10 seconds. Now, it is about 1 second. This is on both Wi-Fi and "4G". App loading and closing is also much faster. I did have my home menu in a long "spinning symbol" after running some apps and I even rebooted but it has since not returned. The screen is absolutely beautiful. Bight, big and sharp. The screen size... 5/5 Brian A. Wolters (Cabot, Arkansas) - See all my reviews, May 16, 2011Arguably the best. Far better than iphone
I used the iphone 2G, 3GS and iphone 4. Of course the last one had major issues with the dropped reception. I have been looking for an andriod phone to get me off Apple and iphone, but NO ONE could match the touch feeling of the iphone. Blackberry touch, you have to tap several times, even Motorola Atrix the response was not great and I returned it. Besides that in the Atrix email program, I could not see Html mail well. Then I heard that Samsung makes the screen that iphone uses and I had heard good feedback on the Galaxy series, that their touch was super. I decided to go with a Samsung product. Outstanding. Impressive. Forget Iphone. Touch: the response is super, even better than the iphone. Yes even better. HTML Email: Excellent, reads it very well. HTC Droid Eris for Verizon Wireless (Black) CDMA Smartphone Android
Wireless (HTC)
List Price: $458.46
Wireless Circle sucks.
The seller sent me a phone (htc droid eris) that worked for only three hours before it completely shut off. I thought it was a battery issure so I went to my local verizon to see if it was an issue they can solve. They told me the phone I was sold was completely a dud and that not only did it not work there was nothing they can do about it to fix it. They demanded that I speak to the seller and get my money back. Overall it was a horrible experience and I will never purchase a phone through amazon's wirelesscirle. 1/5 Denise, New York. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) BlackBerry Curve 8330 Cell Phone 3G Smartphone Verizon (PINK)CDMA
Wireless (Blackberry)

It rocks!
Hello, I am surprised to read the other reviews of this great product.Firstly, let me attest, this is a new Blackberry curve 8330 in mint working condition. Yes, when it came it did not have a lot of features etc on it, like apps, ability to set up multiple emails, etc. I had to just call Verizon to set it up, and they made me update the software on it, and everything was all set in seconds. It had ability to set up several emails, had a browser, camera, video recorder, media player, voice memo recorder, some basic games, blackberry messenger, memo pad, alarm clock, ability to set my own ring tone (which I cant do on my iPhone), etc.1) Myths from reviews:- Yes it is a CDMA phone, not a GSM phone. So to the spanish writer's comments, if you cant read english, then thats not the product's or the seller's problem. It clearly states in the description "Verizon Smart phone" and Verizon is CDMA>- It doesnt have a browser... 5/5 Kaushik Lodh (New York, USA) - See all my reviews, November 6, 2011Awesome phone for the price!!!

LG CU920 QuadBand Unlocked Phone with Touch Screen, MP3 Player and 2MP Camera - US Warranty - Black
Wireless (LG)
List Price: $99.99
Durable phone, sleek looks.
I have had this phone well over 2 and a half years. It is always reliable and there when I need it. The camera on the LG Vu is outstanding! It seems like it takes 6MP pictures but really it is 2MP. It has a simple user interface and easy to use for the average consumer. The call quality is good too. The only flaw I found really is texting, with a full touch screen QWERTY keyboard, it can be a little inaccurate sometimes. Overall 4/5 on this phone. Long battery life, great pictures, and this phone is meant to last! This phone is really great. This was my first purchase online when it comes to buying a phone. This was also my first touch screen phone. The 4 Star rating goes to the phone. I've only had it a day, and it's performed very well, but the condition of all the other things that came with it weren't exactly "new". The OEM shop in NYC said that this phone was new. I knew that it was coming with a charger and all the other ammeneties (sorry for wrong spellings) that a phone comes with. When the phone was opened, someone in my house informed me that there were minor tiny scratches on the back and several finger prints. I saw these as well and didn't really care, but it made me think about if the phone was actually new. I started using the phone today, and the battery was obviously not charged well because it just wasn't because it's a new phone. I went to go charge it, and the charger didn't work at all. I thought maybe it was the plug, but when I tried a different plug, the charger still... 4/5 Thomas A Faro - See all my reviews This review is from: LG CU920 QuadBand Unlocked Phone with Touch Screen, MP3 Player and 2MP Camera - US Warranty - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory) This phone is really great. Quick review of the Epic 4g Touch
- Updated 10/19/11 - This is by far the best phone I have ever used. My previous phone is a EVO 4g so luckily i got renewed after a year. This is my own personal review based on experiences with my EVO 4g, my friends's ip4 and this Epic 4g touch.By far, Epic 4g touch wins by a mile. Initial impressions: 1. Its light as hell!!!!! it feels like you're holding a toy or a dummy phone (this may be good or bad depending on the user, it's really good for me) 2. The size is good enough for me but then again it depends on how big your hands are. 3. The colors are very very VERY vibrant, it really stands out from all angles. 4. It is silky smooth, SILKY SMOOTH. the OS has no lag at all, i tried a pinch to zoom test for the ip4 and epic 4g touch and surprisingly, the epic 4g is so much better. 5. Video camera is on par if not better with Ip4. 6. Got this phone on the 16th. Here are a few things that I like and dislike: likes: 1. speed 2. screen 3. build (feels like a toy? are you kidding me?) this phone is so light in weight but don't confuse that as a poor build quality. If you want a phone built like a tank and weighs like one by all means choose a different phone. finish and fit are beautifully done! 4. camera (8m + LED flash). The pictures are sharp and focused. I got this phone the day it was released via overnight shipping and have been using it ever since (about a week now)- I have been utterly impressed with the device! I switched from a rather dated and rooted original Motorola Droid on Verizon and I couldn't be happier.Pros:-The Super AMOLED (Active matrix organic light emitting diode), which is the newest kind of display technology, absolutely blows any other display away in terms of contrast and color saturation. The 4.5'' diagonal screen on this beast is an absolute pleasure to look at, and it's more efficient than an LCD to boot! I've read a lot of reviews whining about the marginally lower resolution on this screen compared to qHD screens; what a joke, this screen makes every other device around it look washed out and dated... dead serious- you'll completely forget about resolution the moment you power it up- and it has far superior response times!-Processor- underneath the gorgeous screen lies a... 5/5 Michael B. Samsung Galaxy Prevail Android Smartphone (Boost Mobile)
Wireless (Samsung)
List Price: $199.99
A good entry Android phone
I've been using this phone for a few days now and here are the pros and cons. PROS: - Inexpensive - Awesome flexible plans with no contract, you can switch between plans to fit your needs on monthly basis. - Attractive design & compact size - Good speed, not the slowest nor the fastest, somewhere in between (as May 2011) - No blowware installed, good job Boost Mobile - Clear sound for phone calls & decent music player Cons - Fixed focus low res cam (2MP) no LED. It takes OK pics in a good lighting environment, video quality is unusable. My biggest issue is that it CAN'T read standard bar code, due to it's fixed focal lens. But it reads QR code without any problem. - CDMA network, which is a somewhat outdated network system. Most of countries are using GSM network, so it won't work outside of US even if you unlock it. - SIM card embedded, that means it can only be used on Boost Mobile network, maybe... 4/5 J. Shih "javafuel" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews, May 21, 2011I surprised how people are reviewing this phone!
I've had this phone for almost 2 months and it hasn't disappointed at all. In fact, completely the opposite! It's a small phone, but I like that personally. I can't stand how big phones have gotten like the EVO. Also, I don't know what people mean "the phone is slow." What exactly are you doing? Personally, the phone works well for me. I multitask all the time: while biking I stream Pandora, track my location with MyTracks, and respond to the occasional text ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I stream music with Grooveshark in my car while navigating with GPS using Waze (awesome app btw). Never a problem! So, frankly, I'm confused what people are talking about "slow". Also, I'm on Boost's shrinkage plan so, my monthly bill is $45 per month for unlimited everything (including data). I've been on Boost for about 8 or 9 months now. I read reviews on this phone because I find peoples' criticisms interesting. More often than not, people make one huge mistake: comparing it to a high-end... 5/5 Doug Kampe "DK" (Hyattsville, MD) - See all my reviews, June 21, 2011Good Phone, great deal
I've had this phone for a couple weeks. It is my first smartphone, so I'm no expert and I don't expect a lot. Overall I'm pretty pleased. The $50 a month unlimited plan from Boost is a great deal. The web speed is decent and you can view web pages fairly easily. It has an email app that allows you to collect POP email, which is handy CONS: The keyboard - This is a big one. It is near impossible to type on the on screen keyboard. I've ordered a stylus to type. I have fairly nimble fingers, and every fourth letter I type results in the adjacent letter appearing. There is some kind of "swype" application that might help. If you send a lot of text messages, this probably is not the phone for you... or at least you should try it. The battery - seems like it lasts one day or maybe three hours if you're using it No flash support PROS: The price the size - it is thin and small, but this also means a small screen It is android... 3/5 E. Great!
I purchased this phone 1 week ago and so far had only pleasant experience. Great camera with a lot of options, friendly interface and so far so on. windows mobile is a great software that basically allows you to have the mini computer in your pocket. The only negative side of it is that it has too many options. It is great to just copy movies from the home computer and watch them on the phone without downloading extra codecs. Sound is perfect! W-HD - nothing sounds better! sometimes it takes me a while to figure out how to do what want to be done. the name 'Smartphone'speakes for itself.. :) But once you figure everything out the phone basically becomes your best friend! Suggestions: Do not use any build in Verizon programs such as VZ Navigator. 1.99 a day and 7.99 a week - this is just ridiculous! Especially when you can download any navigators online for free and use them for free..! another thing is the battery...
